Guest guest
hi tamara, i also use plastic bottles for a short time and i beleive your kt will be fine in plastic as mine is. Longer periods in plastic are not good as they say kt can leach chemicals from the plastic but you should be fine to carry it to work. (UK) I believe in God, only i spell it nature. We don't really want to carry a glass bottle to work and we do our second ferment in larger size bottles that we place in the fridge. (therefore too large to be schlepping to and from work) Would anything be leached out from the bottle in the 30 minutes to an hour that it would be in the plastic? We both want to bring it to work to enjoy but don't have a bottle we could use. What do you all think? Many thanks! Tamara B

Guest guest
I reuse commercial kombucha glass bottles for my second fermentation and it works well for me. Guest guest
If you're worried about plastic leaching and want an alternative why don't you look into the metal bottles like Sigg bottles that are light and have a lining to keep the liquid away from the metal? If it is a responsible seller they will tell you if it should be able to hold or not hold certain liquids. I like reusablebags.com for things like this. Guest guest
You could always get some of those Nalgene bottles (I got mine at REI) - from what I've heard so far, they don't have BPA in them, which is the main worrisome chemical in most plastics. They are also well-nigh indestructible, which is often useful. I've had the same pair for 10 years, they have been left in the car in the summer heat, frozen with the lids on (one of them bulged out and got misshapen but is still water-tight), dropped on the ground, attacked by dogs, and they're still fine and sound. Guest guest
Hi Tamara, Please see the information about plastics in the list FILES section. Go to: kombucha tea and then click on the Files link on the left side of the page. There is information about plastic there and lots of other Kombucha related files as well. Everyone should check it out! Guest guest
Hi EveryOne, Please be careful not to use aluminum bottles with Kombucha as Kombucha will leach the aluminum or other metals and aluminum is toxic.
