Thought I'd share a poem I wrote the other day. Maybe

you can relate.

Just Another Night

I find you on the floor, clinging to your sheet as if

to life,

Crushed between your bed frame and the wall –

the only spot in the house safe for sleeping.

It’s the b’s, you say. (You can’t even use the word

“buttons”.)

They’ve been everywhere

and now even the air is unclean.

Food must be carried from the kitchen low, at your

knees,

to the place where you can eat.

It must not be touched by hands unless they’re covered

by a napkin.

This crazed life becomes more and more routine:

the wet towels, spit in the trash, spit in the sink,

spit on the floor,

the late nights of little sleep, the hugless days.

I’ve watched you take this monster to your heart,

befriend it, even defend it.

Why you won’t let go, I can only guess.

I’ve tried to wrench it from you

but you just hold on more tightly

like a toddler protecting his toy.

Cruel toy, relentless voice in the head,

Greedy beast, release my boy. He is innocent.

Go find some other mind to play your sick game with.

Wow ,

What a beautiful, sad and completely accurate glipse of the

heartbreak our families live with.... I can totally relate (right

down to the spit on the floor)! Your poem made me cry and I just

forwarded it to all of my friends and family. Thanks for sharing.

Your poem went right to the core!!

I felt like crying when I was reading it. It was as though you were writing

exactly how I felt! I'm sure everyone will feel this way. Anyone with a child of

OCD will certainly be touched !

Hugs to you!

le and Janet,

Thanks for your kind words. I haven't written poetry seriously in years, so your

replies were very encouraging. If this isn't good material, I don't know what

is.

On a higher note, I'm floating on air because we got a message that our son was

accepted to the program at Memorial in Wisconsin, though there will be a

" very short wait " . I'm ready to go tonight! My son is excited as well, and

that's the best part. Hope his enthusiasm doesn't fade.
