Guest guest
The LEA has to provide safe transportation for your son; they may choose a helmet and not a seat however. Is there another reason he needs the seat? Do you want him receiving home bound? Homebound is the most restrictive environment and IDEA says that they must teach him in the least restrictive environment. If you want him on homebound then present the doctors letters and such that state that is what he needs. The same goes for the 1-on-1 aide. I would make sure that there is a medical plan and a behavioral plan with the IEP. The school has to provide a way for him to communicate at school; they do not have to let him take it home. In WV, the Autism Training Center at Marshall University supplied all the PECS cards for home and school at no cost, they also made the book and the task and activities schedules. He needs someone with him at all times, he is self abusive and needs 1 on 1 to succeed.2.He needs a car seat on the bus,he bangs his head on the window, does the school have to provide a car seat?3. He has no way to communicate,I am familiar with the pecs, does the school have some communication boards they loan?4.If 1 on 1 would be better, how would I get him taught at home ?What would I have to do for this?I am just concerned because no teachers will be familiar with him this year, and when he gets upset, he also hits others. Please let me know what you have been able to fight and get for your child in the school system.Thank you De Choose the right car based on your needs. Guest guest
Hi De, I would request in writing an evaluation by either the speech therapist or assistive technology specialist for use of a PECS. Put #s 1 and 2 in writing as well, but I think you are likely out of luck on #4 as far as getting home services. The school system should supply the seat if it's required for safety. > > My son is 12 with severe Autism, self abuse, seizures(few),non > verbal, and still in diapers. He has always been in a SID/PID class.he > will be going to middle school this year in Richmond county and I have > a few concerns.I have never had to add things to his iep ,so I need > some help on how I do it.Here are the things I need help with. > 1.
