Guest guest
You can request that an independent evaluation be done at school expense. You should request this in writing, send it certified return receipt to the special education director and cc it to the superintendent. However, you don't know that you won't aggree with the school's evaluation and you can still request the independent evaluation after the initial evaluation. I believe that they have 10 days to respond in writing to your request. Anyway, one of my son's teachers just let me know it is coming up again and I know it has to be done, but I think there is something where you should be able to have someone who is qualified to test your child right?...And if so how do I go about making sure my child gets evaluated by an examiner qualified in my child's diabilities? __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Do you have a diagnosis from a physician stating that your child has ADHD that impacts his performance in school? Did your child receive a diagnosis of PDD from a private psychologist/physician? If so, you can submit this documentation to the eligibility review team and ask that they accept it as documentation of his disability. The child does not necessarily need to be re-tested. If the school system does want to re-test, then I would ask them what new information they think they might find and what tests they are going to be using. Chances are they are just going to use the same tests they use on every other kid and that they will not be getting any useful or valuable information from the tests. (So, if they are only looking to validate his eligibility, why bother?) If your child is tested and you disagree with the results, you can then request that an independent evaluation be done.
