High cost of insurance and copay for HIV meds

I can no longer afford the health insurance through my employer and the high

copays for my meds. I pay almost $700 in premiums (Blue Shield PPO) and the

copays for Reyataz and Epzicom are almost $800 a month. My salary is too high to

be covered by ADAP.

Does anyone know of an insurance plan with lower premiums and copays?

I have my insurance through Kaiser, and while expensive, about $950 a month, my co pays are $5. per medication per month. Maybe you should see if you can get on a group at Kaiser? Terrance

Are you aware of the new program in California that pays for your insurance. I had to go off ADAP, so I have a $25 copay for the antivirals, but they pay my monthly fee.. I still come out way ahead.LarryFrom: "Terrance Alan" <terrance@...> Sent: Friday, January 27, 2012 4:44:57 PMSubject: Re: High cost of insurance and copay for HIV meds

Hi, Angel. This information is for you and anyone else with similar challenges.

You should get in touch with the California Health Advocates program. http://www.cahealthadvocates.org/.

In addition, with a letter from an health insurance company, declining coverage, the Affordable Care Act, guarantees access to an affordable health plan without pre-existing condition exclusion.

At this link, http://www.healthcare.gov/law/features/choices/pre-existing-condition-insurance-plan/index.html, the inquirer can get information about accessing coverage in each state.

Further, you might explore whether the premium support program from PSI (www.uneedpsi.org or https://www.patientservicesinc.org/ ) is available in CA. In Virginia they have taken over some of the responsibilities of ADAP.

There is also the Partnership for Prescription Assistance Program, https://www.pparx.org/en/about_us.

Please consider working with a social worker or other counselor about depression issues.

There is a lot of help available. Please follow up these possibilities and those provided by others on this listserve.

Hugs!

Jerome
