Guest guest
Oh my Word, I just remember when my oldest son Mike was a baby we lived in Berkeley CA and helped to run a vegetarian restaurant. Yes, I was a hippy! lol Anyway, when he first met my Mom & Dad, he was seven and a half months old. He looked extra tanned and my Mom wondered why...almost orangey. Oh, oh....it was from the carrot juice he was drinking. It was one of his favorites besides breast milk! Guest guest
Hey Terri! I have one of those Vitamix's, where you make smoothies out of the whole fruit. I got it to use in addition to my juicer, so you didn't mess up, you'll just have to use your smoothie maker using really good stuff! Maybe with IBS, you would be better off eating steamed veggies that are soft and have lots of nutrients made available with the cooking. I think tomatoes and carrots both have that distinction, and probably sweet potatoes too. Guest guest
, I believe in juicing. That said, most veggies don't contain enough inulin to feed and correct bowel ecology. So, the toxin production of a bad bowel ecology may easily remain uncorrected, the thyroid may remain suppressed, and adrenal output may remain elevated. So, still, the inulin and optionally probiotics too, may be what they're missing. Raw foodists might like chicory root if they can get it and if not, there's always powdered inulin. I shudder just watching him! What is the consensus here? I have seen the glowing testimonials, but on the thyroid groups the juicers there who are also raw foodists like dear dear DH tell me that they were unable to eliminate their thyroid meds despite strictly following raw foods and juicing; they reduced them, but that is all. Who on EARTH would think that juicing greens and for God's sake cabbage would get them off their thyroid meds? That's a great way to kill your thyroid and put you on medication. Guest guest
No, I usually cook the crucifers even though I don't have a thyroid issue. Maybe that oversight is costing the thyroid group, but you'd think they'd know about that (and soy?). Duncan > > , I believe in juicing. > > But do you believe in juicing cabbage and crucifers? Guest guest
I don't have thyroid problems but regarding juicing in general I have found it very beneficial. I don't do it regularly, and when I do it's usually carrots w/some or all of these veggies: spinach, kale or other greens, celery, beets (though not beets since Candida). Also juicing home grown tomatoes. Mid 2005 I got pretty sick and couldn't figure out what was wrong. Went to a Dr for the 1st time in about 8 yrs who was not much help. But my BP, which had always been low, had gone way up and I felt awful and could hardly function. I juiced for two weeks (veggies & fruits) and brought my BP down considerably and felt great. After finding out I had Candida mid 2006 and going on the diet, my BP kept fluctuating wildly and I was extremely faint all the time to the point of almost passing out. Finally I started juicing again and it really helped straighten things out. I was soundly reprimanded for juicing by others on a different group even though it helped me immensely and nothing they recommended helped. Guest guest
Yes, many people sent home to die of some tragic disease and given up on ...... came upon someone that juiced them back to health. The body was finally given the nutrition to repair and detox what it needed to. I know of 3 people personally who ate raw foods and juiced with a few supplements and no longer have cancers. It's great The main problem with juicing is if you have to do it yourself and you are ill and tired. It takes a lot of energy and clean up to do it. However, eventually your energy increases if you can start it and keep some consistency to it. The second problem is some people take too much at first and their body isn't used to it. Start slowly or cut it 50% with water. It is the best way to get complete nutrition and no man-made chemicals from supplements. Juice vegetables not fruits. It is also speeding up the natural detoxing so start slow till the body get's stronger. The last thing I'd suggest is to watch out for is: USE Organic produce- if anyone has reacted to juicing - my guess is that they probably took too much too soon or they did not use Organic and therefore had condensed pesticides with their condensed vitamins and minerals. Also, get tested for your food allergies. Allergies can give a variety of symptoms. If you have any allergies .... you should be rotating your foods to prevent more allergies. .. Guest guest
Hi Beth, Another good fast that I've been reading about is the Master Cleanse. http://curezone.com/forums/am.asp?i=265154#i1 Patty and did it and I've been thinking of doing it too but am trying to figure out how to fit chelation rounds. I'm doing a 25- hour water fast this Friday as part of my NAET therapy if anyone wants to fast along with me. Then on Saturday I'm doing another liver flush. I think any fast would be beneficial for us given all the toxins we have whether it's one day or three. I do think though that Patty seemed to have really made a difference when she did the 10-day and saw all the toxins coming out on her skin. I eventually want to be able to do a fast of that length but for now all I've been able to handle is 2 1/2 days. Just try it out and see what you can tolerate. Guest guest
- I eat mostly raw foods these days, fruits and veggies and nuts with some whole grains, especially quinoa. I'm sorry to say that it doesn't seem to really have improved my P or PA at all, but I do feel it is a healthy way to eat in general and is helping me lose weight slowly. I would not advise getting heavily into juices. The problem with juices is that you don't get the necessary fiber. The very thing you hate, the texture, is so important to good health! Fruit juices especially are very high in sugar without the compensatory benefit that the fiber from the actual fruit itself gives. The sensible thing to do is to eat a balanced, varied diet. Include lots of different colored foods and as much fiber as possible, as little sugar or refined foods as possible and moderate amounts of meat if at all. It's tempting to hope that some miracle diet or food or supplement will take away our disease, but it just won't happen. It sounds like you're eating a pretty healthy way. The few things you hate can be substituted with other veggies! regards, sherry z
Guest guest
Thanks for the advice. I think I'm just interested in trying new things to see if they help. Thats how I figured out that I feel better on a vegetarian diet. I can easily correlate eating a hamburger and increase in pain. Its very clear. So I want to try other things to see what makes it worse and what makes it better. I think everyone is in some way affected by what they consume. It depends on the person. My body clearly doesn't like cow or pork, but it loves fish. I feel better after a lunch of tuna or dinner of salmon and broccoli. It helps a lot. So I want to try juicing just to see how it helps. Of course I'll still eat whole vegetables and fruit with my beans and lentils, that will never change. I'm sorry to hear that your whole fresh diet isn't helping your pain. I bet it will in the long run as you loose weight. I hear that 5lbs of weight loss feels like 20 to you knees, and when your knees hurt like mine its a nice change. I lost about 20lbs before the Prednisone. Hopefully I didn't gain too much weight the 10 days I was on it. I have about 80 lbs to go, but right now I'm just concentrating on doing things to make my pain better without using drugs. Just looking at some holistic ways to feel better. I don't measure much, but I put about 1/2 inch of whey in the bottom of a quart jar (1/4 cup maybe?) and about 1 tsp salt. Shake to mix when you first add salt and whey, and then just let it sit. I often find fresh juice too sweet, so I like it somewhat fermented. >

Guest guest
Sandy, Do you have a good juicer? What kind did you get? The rule of thumb for juicing is to juice vegetables together (no fruits) or fruits together. The other rule is to juice melons alone. There are exceptions, and that is apple/carrot. This is a pretty common combination. Avoid green juices if they give you brain fog. This would be spinach, watercress, kale and swiss chard by themselves or with other juices. BE careful with beets, and only juice a little at a time. Beets can make you throw up if you take too much beet juice at once. You can add a few spinach or green leaves to your carrot/apple juice if you want the greens...just be careful of doing too much at once. Let me know how you are doing with the juicing. I believe that for you, a fast or juice fast would do wonders for you Sandy!
