Guest guest
Kathy, Yes, it does stink! I have two with mood disorders and ocd also. You just have to hang in there!!!!!!!!!!!! The best advice I can give you is to ignore all the negativity. They thrive on it! Walk away from her and ignore her when she acts that way, so she doesn't have an audience. Guest guest
Judy~ I keep reading about this " mood disorder " component of ocd...or is it? Is it a separate disorder? My 10 year old dd melts down after playdates end and usually with math homework. the negativity is enough to depress any cheerleader mom! Guest guest
Hi Michele, Some kids without any diagnosis are moody(as we all know! lol!) I'm speaking about my 12 yr old dd ( She does not have any problems and is sooo moody!) Anyway, my other two kids, ages 10 and 6 have ocd and mood disorders. One has bipolar and the other has mood disorder-nos.(which normally gets diagnosed as bipolar later) They are separate disorders. New research is stating that children diagnosed with bipolar disorder often have obsessive and compulsive behaviors, but do not actually have ocd. Hope this helps some! Guest guest
-- Judy-- How can you tell the difference between normal " Bad moods, moodiness " and mood disorder?? My moody daughter also has trich, which can be (according to who is asked) a form of OCD. Do either of yours have trich??? Guest guest
Hi Kathy, Neither of my kids have trich, but my dd has severe skin picking. It is awful!!!! You can easily tell the difference between normal moodiness and a mood disorder. For example, my 12 yr old(who is just moody) will get mouthy and may slam a door, etc .If my 10 yr old or 6 yr old are having mood swings, it's a nightmare. They can rage for hours at a time, where they have to be physically held down. they will threaten to kill me.( My dd used to say she would cut me up with an axe) Nothing you do will stop them. They don't care. They have an almost " feral look to them when this happens. They will hit and scream and throw things, roll on the floor, listen to nothing, punch, )I could literally go on and on for hours with examples. My dd will laugh hysterically over nothing for 20 minutes, than it will turn into a massive rage. There is no explanation for the rage. It usually will happen from a simple " NO " , but can come out of nowhere. Many kids with mood disorders also have psychosis. My dd has never had this but my son does. It is horrible. Hope this helps some. Hugs Judy stinkydogkid <stinkydogkid@...> wrote: -- Judy-- How can you tell the difference between normal " Bad moods, moodiness " and mood disorder?? Guest guest
-- Hi Judy, Well that does help. It makes me think that she just has normal extreme moodiness, anxiety and trich. She doesnt do the things you mentioned, but she is still extremely difficult and moody. My younger daughter (on tryletpal) started having the look you mentioned and it almost reminded me of a cat, and I could tell she had no control. When she was 5 she would say " I want to go to school so I dont have those crazys. " . We go back to the psychiatrist tomorrow, so I am trying to figure out how to describe her and/or have something that helps better than the risperdol,,, she is still moody, cant go to sleep easily at night (insomnia), and very moody, complaining all the time, but just not the rages you describe. thanks Kathy - In , jchabot <jchabot@...> wrote: > > Hi Kathy, > Neither of my kids have trich, but my dd has severe skin picking. Guest guest
Judy, This is Lynne, mom to Sis. She has the " feral " look to her at times, will scream, alll you mentioned for hours. I have to hold her down at times. How do you deal with this ? Usually after one of those I cry outside feeling like the worst mom in the world for having to hold her down, or discipline her. Guest guest
Good question Judy. My 10 year old also is very sensitive about things, cries if the homework is more than she feels it should be, then has trouble moving on with it and doing it, she also snaps easily in anger, and hates being embarrassed. I would say she has OCD though and not OCDP because she seems to really fear germs and it makes her very anxious if she cannot wash after toilet, or shower after pooh.
