Guest guest
HOORAY!! We potty trained our son for 6.5 years and one day he finally got it. And not including medication related accidents, we’ve been pretty lucky. Jump for joy, you guys deserve it. Jeanne From: autism [mailto:autism ] On Behalf Of Bris' Sunshine Sent: Sunday, December 10, 2006 8:55 AM AutismGA; southsidesupport Subject: Just Had To Tell Everyone! (A little bragging on my daughter) I just have to brag about what my 5 yr old girl did this morning. I have been working on and off for about 2 years now to get Sierra potty trained, especially when she started taking off all her clothes on a regular basis at home. However, I know that pushing her just would not do any good. This morning, I had (uncharacteristically) left our bathroom door open as I started packing things for our move (next week). Well, I started hearing what sounded like Sierra turning on the bathtub (one of her fav play activities). So I made my way to the bathroom, ready to dash to the tub, when I stopped cold in my tracks. Sierra had lifted the toilet seat and had sat down and was going potty - ALL BY HERSELF! She didn't even grab the kiddie seat to put on the toilet, she just plopped right down! I couldn't believe it. Of course, I made a HUGE fuss about it, whipped her clean, then took her to the kitchen to get a chocolate Christmas tree Little Debbie snack cake (yes, I know, not a good breakfast food, but oh well! :-) ) So, anyway, I just had to brag. I can only hope that this is a sign that she is more than ready to move forward. Now that I think about it, I have been able to get her to sit on the toilet a few times this week. The other day, she took a book with her, sat on the potty and just " read " for awhile. Do you think she is trying to tell me something! One question to the groups - Has anyone else ever had a child on the Spectrum just suddenly start using the potty? I know all ASD children are different, but I am just wondering. I know that with my older typical daughter, she just seemed to grab the concept outta the blue (and after a year of training) and went one night totally dry and we never put another diaper on her. I can only hope that Sierra is " telling " me she is ready for this. -- ~ ~ proud US Army wife mommy to Caitey, 9, ADHD mommy to Sierra, 5, autism, nonverbal, sensory intergration disorder " Only the really plain people know about love - the very fascinating ones try so hard to create an impression that they soon exhaust their talents.
