Guest guest
We just had a visit from a nurse (she's now 80) of the old school who was active during WW2. She said that whenever anyone had bad diarhhea on the wards, the bell would ring out with 'Boil up some rice!' They would then give the water left from the boiling. I think there is some anecdotal information about it NOT promoting bad bacteria ( I saw this in a write-up buy Shattock .) She also told me that in Canada in the 50s and 60s on the wards that when antibiotics were given, probiotics were given also :-0 Does your accommodation have kitchen facilities where you can get some boiled up. If possible, find a supermarket and get the brown rice which will also get some Vitamin B1 into him....In France, they recommend Lactobacillus Acidophoulos for this problem. You should be able to get this at any health food store in the uk. Guest guest
HI Alison Get homeopathic Nux Vom or Arsenicum Alb.. both available from Boots or other pharmacy... Get some oil - such as olive oil and put a drop near his belly button,,, rub gently in an anticlockwise direction around his belly button until your fingers feel really warm.. this slows down the passage of food in the colon and so more liquid is absorbed into the body.. reducing liquid consistency..I In Zimbabwe we used to be advised to make our own rehydration liquid it was half a teaspoon of salt and 3 teaspoons of sugar dissolved in a pint of boiled water... Green coconut juice would also work really well.. if you have access to a health shop. Best Wishes Tracey On Tue, Aug 3, 2010 at 8:37 AM, josephrabbit2000 <rowbotham.alison@...> wrote: Please help. Guest guest
They still use rice water (thick and gooey) in France for this. Guest guest
Alison,If the diarrhea isn't under control and your son is going lots of times a day, he will need more than electrolyte drinks. Is his skin tenting when you pinch it? Dehydration resulting from diarrhea is serious - our son was hospitalised multiple times as a young infant/toddler with diarrhea. If it continues past a few days I would take him to A & E to be on the safe side, the paed A & e's were always brilliant with our son and IV fluids can be critical if it reaches serious levels.
