Unfortunately, I can't help you with the dentist, as we live on the southside and use a pediatric dentist in , so I don't know that you want to drive that far.

But, on the subject of permanent teeth coming in and the baby teeth not falling out, my 7-year-old son has 2 bottom permanent teeth that have come in and the baby teeth have not fallen out yet, and this is what the dentist has told us: She will pull them, but she prefers to wait until the permanent teeth are pretty much all the way in and give the baby teeth time to loosen and come out on their own. She says the permanent teeth will pretty much shift into place on their own once the baby teeth come out. Unfortunately, because our son is autistic, he doesn't let you stick your finger in there and wiggle them much, and he doesn't wiggle them on his own either to help loosen them up, so looks like we will be having them pulled sometime soon.

Also, I have a friend who has a "typical" child who has also had permanent tooth come in but not lose the baby tooth right away, and her dentist told her the same thing, but her baby tooth finally came out on its own.

I'm not sure if Roswell is in Cobb or Fulton County -- we live in Gwinnett -- but drive to Roswell to see Dr. Healy. He is a pediatric dentist who sees only special needs kids one day each week (Thursdays). We have found his staff to be extremely knowledgeable and helpful - and Dr. Healy works well with our son who is 11 years old and has autism. My husband is a dentist and he had nothing but great things to say about how Dr. Healy handled our son dentally and emotionally. Good luck!

The number for Healy's office is 770 993-9395.

,

I'm in Fayette County. Who is your pediatric dentist? Does your son

tolerate dental visits, or does he have to be sedated? My almost

3-year-old barely tolerates toothbrushing, so I am not looking forward

to dentist visits.

Any info would be helpful. Thanks!

Hello,

I was just at our Psychiatrist's office and he recommended a pediatric dentist in Atlanta

(I'm not sure what part, I haven't called for an appointment yet)

Our doctor said Autistic kids are this dentist's forte...I liked the sound of that because one

of our autistic ones won't hardly let you near his mouth...

This same child won't hardly tolerate a haircut either...mmm I wonder if this dentist

has any secondary talents and can cut his hair after we sedate him? LOL....

boy, wouldn't that be service...lol

Well anyway, here is the name and number he gave us....you might want to see

what part of Atlanta this one is in.

The name is Deidra Rondeno, DDS (404) 942-0086.

I hope this helps!! Carla

We use Dr. Durham in (770) 412-8636; she's been around for a long time, as my 22-year-old nephew say her for a while when he was young. They have been great with Connor. So far, they have not used the "drill" cleaning with him--just a tooth brush and the typical paste they would use with the drill. For his indepth dental work--he's had 2 crowns and numerous fillings--they give him Versed and will use the papoose board. The Versed keeps him from remembering it, so he's not traumatized by it and actually does not fuss at all about going to the dentist. He is still lousy when it comes to letting us brush his teeth--he won't do it at all. We let him pick out a character toothbrush that he liked and let him have it just to chew on and mouth so he could get used to the sensation. I was using a regular toothbrush on him for a while, with little success, but he got a battery operated one from someone and started wanting to use it, and, suprisingly, we've had more success with that.

One thing that Dr. Durham recommended trying, which I ended up not having to, is to buy a new rubber doorstop and sterilize it--the ones like you would have down on your baseboard sticking out to catch the door, and let your child bite down on that while you are brushing the teeth so that you can get into one side good and then change to the other side (or using the finger brush to keep from getting bitten). I never looked for one, so I don't know how hard they are to find, but I'm sure there are some oromotor things in a therapy catalog that would work, as well, to bite down on.

BTW, at 3, Connor would not tolerate toothbrushing at all. It's really been over the last year or so that he has really started letting me do a "decent" job at it; thus, all the cavities and crowns.

Her office would be easy for you to get to from Fayetteville. Just take 92 to , turn right onto 19/41, take 19/41 the bypass, turn right onto Kalamazoo Drive, continue straight through the 4-way stop onto Airport Road, at end of Airport Road turn right onto South Hill Street, and at the red light at Crescent Road take a left and her office sits in the little triangle there, across from the fire station. Or, you can, of course, go through downtown and take South Hill Street out from there, and her office would be on the right. You just have a lot more stop and go traffic going that way.

One other thing we have found out: Our dental insurance will not cover the Versed, but we have been able to get our pediatrician to write or call in an Rx for a proper dose to the pharmacy and our medical insurance has paid for the Rx with no problem. The dose of Versed at the office was going to be $126. So, we pick it up at the pharmacy and take it with us to her office and she administers it.
