Guest guest Posted September 8, 2010 Report Share Posted September 8, 2010 Hi, I recently wrote as a new member to this group that my daughter had a fainting episode after one dose of cipro prescribed for overgrowth of ell morganii and Proteus vulgaris shown thru her stool testing. We stopped it immediately. Now the integrative medicine doctor would like to try 1 week of septra at 2 teaspoons twice/day along with a probiotic and then continue on with a natural antimicrobial called GI Microb-X. Are there dangers with Septra as well like she experienced with the cipro? Scared to proceed. Is there a consensus at all with this group that septra should not be used either? When I read up on it, it seems to have a 'SULFA' basis to it. 'Sulfa' is very problematic in people who have faulty sulfur metabolism. Studies show that people with autism, Rheumatoid Arthritis, cardiac issues, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, ALS all have problems with sulfur metabolism If you google SEPTRA, you'll find several websites about people damaged by this drug. Cipro is an incredibly strong drug. My pharmacist likened it to a nuclear bomb in the gut....and should only be given in life-threatening situations. I put a call into my daughter's(has Rett syndrome) integrative medicine doctor about it. Hopefully he will call back today.
