Bobbe,

No lie? Wow! I've been trying to encourage my mom to have wls and

figured it was getting too late for her to do anything now. She just

turned 64 last week. Now I know there are docs (Dr. K) who will

still do it. When was your surgery? How was it adjusting to the new

life at such an experienced age? Hey, wouldn't it be cool if my mom

decided to have Dr. K put a Lap Band on her when I have my revision?

And my skinny sister can come take care of us both!! lol Now

there's an idea!!

Hugs,

Laurie

Virginia,

Boy that is a tough one.I tell everyone that ask me cause I think

this is the greatest surgery ever.If I can get just 1 person to have

the ds and not the rny then I feel that I have done my part in

getting the ds out and people to know about it.Not to menetion that

it is a far better surgery.

Go with your gut feeling about telling people, remember even close

friends talk amoung themselves,so if you tell a few friends soon

everyone will know about it..LOL

God bless and good luck

Virginia....I chose to tell the truth about how I lost weight...I

also let people know what I was going to do before surgery...A large

part of my decision to just be completely open about it was due to

what Pat said in the above post...If one person knew then others

would find out, and I didn't want to appear foolish saying " oh I'm

just watching what I eat " and the person knew the secret. This

actually happened with a gal at work...she had the RNY. She said

she was having " gallbladder surgery " ...the RNY was supposed to be

a " big secret " By the time she came back to work EVERYONE knew her

secret but couldn't/didn't say anything to her about her great

weightloss....about 6 months after she was back at work she realized

everyone knew and she could talk about it. Anyway that made me

decide " why try to keep it a secret " Believe me, people talk...it

can even be your husband/sister/mother....before long the world

knows and instead of talking " to your face " about it they are

talking " behind your back " .

There are others on this list that have decided not to share with

the world....It is a personal decision....and either way is OK...I'm

just sharing with you one of the reasons I chose to be " out of the

closet " ....it just made my life less complicated...no secret, no

trying to remember or figure out who knew and who didn't. Besides I

felt completely confident the DS was the Right way for me, I have NO

SHAME and I really don't care what others may think of my choice.

(This is not implying that others who choose not to share have shame

etc....some people are just more private.}

Do what is best for YOU...what you feel the most COMFORTABLE with.

Hugs
