Guest guest
Lori, When we went to the psychiatrist, we talked about everything and got a prescription. I kept it " just in case " I ever felt we needed it - so that we wouldn't have to wait 2 month again! Kind Regards, cindy Lori nsen <jorgy@...> wrote: Well, after having to wait for over two months to get an appointment with a psychiatrist, tomorrow we go in. My 12 yo daughter has been seeing a psychologist every 2-3 weeks for a few months now, and I'm not sure what we need the psychiatrist for, I just hate to cancel after waiting so long. When we first started therapy, there was the question about using meds, so hence we needed the appointment. Now I'm pretty sure we don't want any drugs, but I still have the appointment to go to. Can anyone think of anything else I should/could talk to him about? This may be our only shot, since our insurance only pays for 12 visits for mental health. BTW, my daughter has issues with contamination/germs. Thanks Lori J jorgy@...
Guest guest
Our son did very well on CBT for 2 months and then everything seemed to explode and he very much needed to go on medication. I second the idea of getting a prescription just in case! Barb > Well, after having to wait for over two months to get an appointment with a psychiatrist, tomorrow we go in. Guest guest
Did you actually fill the prescription? At least here in NJ (and I suspect this may be federal), prescriptions for controlled substances (eg, amphetamines) expire 30 days after they are written and all others after one year. Of course, the medication itself also expires usually a year after it is filled. Just something to keep in mind... Guest guest
Lori, does your insurance only pay for 12 visits combined for psychologist and psychiatrist per calendar year? If that is the case, I personally might hold off on the appointment. My daughter's needs have drastically changed this year and a bipolar diagnosis was added to her OCD. If you truly don't think you need this appointment I would be inclined to wait until closer to the time when you get 12 new visits and if you still have visits left over use it then. If you don't need meds, she may be better served by using the appointments with the therapist, at this time. Good luck. Kim In a message dated 7/6/2007 12:14:13 A.M. Guest guest
Lori, After a diagnosis of OCD we were informed by our daughter's therapist that because OCD is a biological illness our insurance company had to grant us unlimited visits. I know her office submitted a letter in writing stating my daughters diagnosis to the insurance company but because they took care of it for us I'm unclear of the logistics. _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of mnmomof1@... Guest guest
Lori, I am glad you had a good appointment. Did you end up getting a prescription for any meds? How often is your daughter currently seeing her therapist? I definitely agree with seeing if your state has the parity law, so you can get more appointments if needed. Luckily, my daughter has unlimited visits which was really necessary for her this year. Good luck. Kim In a message dated 7/10/2007 1:35:42 P.M. It was a good visit, even though I am no less confused about meds. Thanks Kim, Lori ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. Guest guest
, How interesting! I will definitely check into that. I can't see how an insurance company can think that 12 visits for any mental health issue would be enough. Thanks, Lori
