Guest guest
Hi everyone! My son, Liam, 22months, has just been diagnosed with autism so we will be moving to the Atlanta area in order to get treatment for him. We currently live in Dublin, GA, which, as you can imagine, has next to nothing in the way of treatment options. So I am asking for any advice anyone has about choosing a city to live in. I would like to live within 40 miles of the city, but not too close (I'm a little paranoid when it comes to crime). I would appreciate any information anyone has about schools and school districts in different areas. I am hoping to find something that already has good accomodations for autistic children so that I don't spend a lot of time fighting for them. Also, any general information about the different areas regarding the types of people living there (I want to avoid places overrun with college students and twenty-somethings), the accessibility to different treatment centers, traffic issues, etc, would all be very helpful. Also, if you can think of anything at all you have advice on, I'll take it! I can't afford anything super-ritzy, so any information on good middle-class, family areas would be great. Thanks to everyone in advance! ~

Guest guest
Carmen - I am in Gwinnett as well. I would love to get more information about the school system. My daughter, , is 2 1/2 and we have just begun the transition into the schools. I'm in Snellville and any info you could give me would be awesome. Feel free to email off list. jennifer1972@... The true measure of an individual is how he treats a person who can do him absolutely no good. -Ann Landers -- Re: Moving to Atlanta area If you need help finding a house that you can afford, let me know I will be happy to put you in touch with my sister. She is great at finding what you want in the metro Atlanta area. . We have family in Dublin and I am sure it will be an adjustment but it will be easier to get treatment in the metro area. There is so much to offer our autistic kids and I am sure you will get bombarded with information. The best advise I can give is this... Each child is different and what works for one will not work for all. My daugher is 10 and I can not tell you the nubmer of times I got my hopes that one therapy, diet or treatment that I had read about would help. Well Alyssa is her own person and I have found that I can not get all excited that someone's solution would be the solution for her. I am thrilled with the news that any child with a disability is doing well and functioning at his/her best. We are in the Gwinnett school system and it is ok. They try their best to do what they think will help and the resourses, teachers and therapist are knowledgeable. I am sure that you will get others who swear that they are enrolled in the best/worst sytems around. Keep in mind it is just opinion. Oh well I will quit going on and on. Best of luck with finding what you are looking for. Pace yourself and give yourself the freedom to just be you little guy's mom and not a scientist, specialist, therapist or insurance agent. :-)) Carmen greysonliam <greysonliam@...> wrote: Hi everyone!
