Today was supposed to be a 60 minute upper body workout, Cross Trainer: Upper Body Split, but I didn't have that or any other 60 minute upper body workout so I put in the 40 minute "parts" video, Upper Body. I've only done this once or twice and the last time was in March 2009 so I didn't remember anything about it except that I thought it was tough and a good workout. I still think that. The snippets from the various classic FIRMs are making me want to do those! Since they're not part of this rotation, I might do some when I finish it. Anyway, this is all strength, no cardio intervals, although for some reason, The FIRM insists on making you move your feet in some kind of pattern even when you're doing something totally upper body. For example, during military presses you're also tapping your toes, it might have been even with your toes pointed or something dancerish. That would be one of my few complaints about this workout. I wanted to focus on my upper body but I was also having to pay attention to my feet, which is never easy for me (yeah, I could have chosen not to do the lower body, especially because I didn't find it beneficial, but I'm a slave to the instructor and just do what I'm told as best I can most of the time anyway). I think that was mostly a distraction in the beginning, I don't remember doing it much later on. The only other complaint is that you don't do a lot of biceps work in it. You do three sets of lat rows but not much biceps. There are a couple of things I love about this workout though. One is that you can easily make it as hard or as easy as you want by choosing heavier or lighter weights. I went as heavy as I could, including 15s for most of the lat rows. In ' segments, she often tells you what poundage to pick up instead of just light, medium or heavy. She said "15" and I said, "WHAT?!" and then did as I was told. I haven't picked up my 15s much at all since last summer (before shoulder injury & breast reconstruction surgery). It was challenging but just right! By the third time through though, especially because you're kneeling on the ground for those, I went to 10s. I can't remember what else I love right now but this is an awesome workout and I am already feeling it, I'm expecting DOMS tomorrow.

Gotta get ready to sub for another leader. I did my class earlier today and a friend is out of town so I'm taking hers late this afternoon. Then it is Brownie Moms' Night Out with all the moms from our Brownie troop. We call ourselves The Brownie Moms but the girls just bridged to Juniors earlier this week so I guess now we'll be The Junior Moms! :-)
