The FDA Blood Products and Safety Committee voted yesterday to approve the home

version of the Orasure HIV rapid test.

The discussion was thorough, and worries of coercive testing, the impact of a

diagnosis alone, etc, were all covered.

The need for expansion of testing, especially in communities not currently being

reached, was felt to be an over-riding concern.
