Ah but I know what the problem is, dust within the processing unit. I took it apart yesterday and I am ashamed at myself for letting it get soooooooo dirty! Dust balls the size of the mouse. I'm surprised the fan was still able to function at all. Well, it's running smooth and quiet once more. Now to add this chore to my calender so I'll be reminded before it gets out of hand. Good luck . Kim

I cleaned out my old computer last year because of noisy fans and dust - turns out you're not supposed to use a vacuum. It got quiet all right - dead quiet. *L*

I was very careful not to rub the circuit board, just lightly went over it with the soft brush but I sucked the heck out of the fans. Live and learn. If yours was plugged in too, then I don't feel so bad, just unlucky.

Well, in my anal world of cleaning you must unplug everything because the cords need a once over too. No, seriously, I did know that all must be shut down and unplugged. It might have something to do with me being a manual reading freak. ; ) I'm sure that tech used your story for a chuckle many a time. Don't feel bad, techies do dumb stuff too, I've seen some first hand. Kim
