Jeanne, Sorry to hear about your problems. I hope you can get an early reschedule. Just one thing to consider, though. Did anyone think that this was possibly not an anxiety attack but maybe a reaction to the medication? The increasing severity of the symptoms with the second dose and the duration of the symptoms even after leaving the hospital all appear to point to that possibility, IMHO. I had the same drug before surgery and never felt a burning sensation. I'm not a doc or nurse, but I seem to recall being told that if I felt anything other than a localized stinging sensation to let someone know because it might indicate a reaction to whatever I was being given. Just a thought and something to talk over with Dr. K. Again.. Sorry to hear about the problems and hopeing you get an early reschedule. Guest guest
Thanks for the encouragement Melinda. After doing research and also finding out that my niece had the same reaction to Versed I am sure that it was an allergic reaction. As far as the T-shirt goes, I have found Dr K to be easy going and lots of fun when I have had brief interactions with him. I think he would get a kick out of it. Personally I mean only great respect with a lot of affection and a little humor when I use that term of endearment. I say if it feels right, do it! Next time you will know not to have that drug..lol Sorry you had to go thru all that and still not have surgery.Maybe it wasn't to be that day,we have to remember that everything is in Gods time not ours. I remember one time when my mom got a bad cat scratch,so my brother and I had some 150proff rum and we said Mom let us clean it.Well we did,and if she could have got up from the chair she would have killed us..LOL When she caught her breath we told her it hurt because she didn't have a piece of rawhid to bite down on..lol Needless to say she wouldn't let us help her anymore. Second time around for you will be a snap. God bless, and hope you get your date very soon. When they send me back your card I will just hold it until you do get your surgery..lol Pat > > > >

The nurse started injecting medicines into the IV Oh, Jeanne: I'm so sorry that you were not able to get the grand opening! Hopefully they can reschedule you real soon - I would love to have you as a fellow inmate in Feb- or, maybe they can put you in the March 1st spot that I vacated. I would ask them about the possibility of an allergic reaction to the sedative –I don't know how often it happens. You certainly don't want to go through it again. If it was an anxiety attack, from personal experience, it's really scary. I've had only one – but I though that I was having a stroke! My dh rushed me to the ER. Some of what you described sounded similar to the feelings that I had. I'm going to Kinko's this week to see if I can have a t-shirt made up for the hospital. It will have Dr. K's photo from the obesityhelp.com website and underneath will have what you call him, Da Big K-huna. Think he'll like it? Guest guest
Jeanne, Oh man, big time bummer. Allergic to Versed!! That's the " good stuff " . But there is other stuff they can give you to relax you. I hope they can squeeze you in sometime real soon. I'm sure God has a reason for your surgery being post-poned. I got even more hot, dripping with sweat, started squirming on the table and really couldn't think straight. I wanted to cry but I couldn't make any tears. All I could think of was getting off that table and getting those blankety blank surgical hose off of my legs. All I could SAY was " I wanna go home " " I can't do this " . Of course everyone thought that I was just scared so they called the OR and cancelled the surgery and Dr K came in and said that it was no problem, that I could have surgery some other time. Honey...you sound like you had a drug reaction. It sounds exactly like what happened to me twice. When I had my 1st myleogram they gave me IV valium and I had the same thing almost to the letter happen, but I was lying on a table with a needle in my lower spine and couldn't get up. At the time I didn't know it was the valium. I kept telling the nurse I was gonna pass out and she was like... " oh you'll be fine " and I had to have myself flat with my head back for the neck part. They had a washrag over a foam block under my neck. (To keep the dye from going p to the brain. I finally decided I was going to die and they were going to let me lie there and die, so I just went limp and had that " close to passing out but quite doing it feeling " and my neck moved. The nurse got scared and grabbed some washcloths and started washing my face. I lived through it, but said I'd never have it again...well, I lied. I had another myleogram a year later and was fine. But withthe first, I was sleepy, but couldn't sleep for hours and felt anxious like I wanted to get up and run but was tired. Didn't think of what was differentbetween the two myleograms until later after I got a prescription for valium for muscle relaxers(My pain doc wanted to try it for some reason) It was awful!!! I had the same exact symptoms as previously. But no pro ceedure and it was easier to figure out what to blame. Several years later I had my records and was able to see....The second Myleogram didn't give valium. The second time was when I got a Prescription for xanax. I had a similar reaction and called the pharamcist and he told me the drugs were similar....I believe he said " first cousins " I add those both to my list of drug reactions and allergies. I also had a similar reaction to a IV dose of phenergan. I can take it orally, but can't take the IV form.... Next time make sure versed is listed as a drug allergy on your forms and ask before they give you anything. You should have made sure they realized it was the drug, because they probabally would have admitted you for observation just to make sure you didn't get worse. I know at the time it's hard to realize just what it was, but now that you have had the chance to look back you will know next time. Just say, No happy juice for me.....LOL. Seriously, there are other drugs that can help you to relax, and tell the nurse and the annesthesiologist exactly what happened last time before they give you anything. Maybe they could have given you a drug to stop the reaction and help you relax if they had been able to recognize it. Next time will be the real Grand opening.....LOL. in Bama VBG 1982 (lost from 433lbs to 270's) VBG to RNY1996 revision(Lost from 343 to 299) RNY to DS revision Dec 2002 -down 118 lbs so far (377.7 to 259.4 and still going Homepage address- http://hometown.aol.com/mdl1031/myhomepage/profile.html Many thanks to Dr. K willing to take on a 3rd timer....LOL
