This morning I did this yoga practice from Rainbeau Mars. I've only done it once before and that time was on 10/30/08 so, needless to say, I didn't remember it at all. I thought I remembered it as being boring and thought I was doing it this time to see if I wanted to get rid of it. However, as it turned out, I really enjoyed it. This is a very calming, slow moving practice that has a nice flow. It does not contain any sun salutations and the poses are very simple. The most difficult is either down dog or child's pose, depending on how flexible your hips are I guess. It had some good movements to open the shoulders too. Since it is for beginners, Rainbeau starts out by having you lay on your back and leads you through an exercise to help you focus on your breath. I think I thought that was boring last time I did this because at that time I was doing a lot of yoga and a lot of it power yoga. I haven't been doing any yoga regularly for many months so today I found the breathing exercise helpful and the slow-moving, quiet practice enjoyable. The only thing I can see as a negative about this is that Rainbeau must say "Enjoy your breath." at least 500 times in a 40 minute practice. It didn't bother me today but I think the first time it did. Her voiceover didn't always match the onscreen action exactly (the action was a bit behind) but it was close enough to not be a problem.

I think the rest of this week I'm going to try and switch back and forth between athletic practices (like Yoga Meltdown yesterday) and mind-body practices (like this one) so that I can get some physical work and some softer (more of a focus on flexibility and/or spirituality) work, all of which I feel like I need this week. Some will probably blend all those things instead of being strictly one or another aspect and that is fine too. I'm not sure what tomorrow will be, possibly a power yoga workout of some sort or possibly attempt Yoga Meltdown workout 2. Will decide when I get there (but having some sort of structure from which make the choice will be helpful too).
