Guest guest
I have been looking to buy 3rd/4th brewing vessel/s DO NOT buy http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1 <http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1 & sku=17082078> & sku=17082078 (out of stock anyway) while its cheap, the lid didn't fit right (on BOTH of them so my assumption is that all of them are like that) and the hole where the spigot goes had chips all over (that too was BOTH of them) so this very jar is NOT GOOD! Teresita could you copy/paste the link again please to the one you use. The link didn't work and I ve tried to fix it in several ways with no go! A couple of my starter SCOBY's are ready to be moved and I might have to resort to plain gallon jar temporarily until I can find a brewing jar with spigot I am happy with. I do have 2 2.5 brewing jars that I am happy with and I know where I bought them while the price was reasonable the shipping was just too much! Amazon=good jars expensive shipping Bedbathandbeyond=ok jars higher priced but cheap shipping Good morning everyone! nn From: kombucha tea [mailto:kombucha tea ] On Behalf Of Teresita Sent: Sunday, March 14, 2010 3:47 PM kombucha tea Subject: brewing vessel This is the vessel I use. http://www.bedbatha ndbeyond. com/product. asp?order_ num=1823915889 & SKU=14959424 & RN=2125 same as . Guest guest
n, I use this jar http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1 & SKU=14959424 I removed the plastic washer under the lid so there was some air flow and I leave the lid on, without a cloth cover and I cover the whole thing with a dark cloth and it does well. My kitchen is pretty cold so I bought a warming pad for it. I hit the button whenever I walk by and remember to because it turns off after 30 minutes to avoid fire hazards. Guest guest
You know I have been eyeballing this jar for some time and wished I had ordered this one instead of the horrid other, a nightmare! My question is. I have 2 2.5 gal jars already (they are tall) and this one is 2.8 (bigger but wider instead of tall) . Are they too big? a friend of mine has been brewing and bottling on a steady basis and im struggling! I know hes been doing this since fall and I ve only started on Feb 7th. When researching I see so many say to get a gallon jar. Am I going overboard? Expecting too much? I did make sure to double the recipe! Nothings wrong, just slow going, (warm house, steady 70, healthy starter SCOBYs and healthy adopted SCOBY. I have 3 starters ready to be moved to a brewing jar) Help before I spend my meager savings on this jar! Guest guest
I started out with one gallon pickle jar. This was good for me, as I needed to start slowly with taking the KT. It didn't take too long before 1G was not enough though, and I have two 1-G pickle jars going. I am keeping my eyes open for a jar with spigot though. I know there's a co. in town that sells the 2 gal ceramic water jug things for about $40. I see lots of people using these same jugs. The only thing is I like peaking, so if I can find a glass one, I'd rather do that. I think taller ones take a bit longer than wider, but if you're using it at the rate that it's brewing, that's no biggy either. Velma kombucha tea From: juliann@... Guest guest
Hi nn, wider is generally better than tall as a wider surface in relation to the depth allows more oxygen in. But if money is an issue, you could still work with your 2 tall jars and not fill them completely. I am now using an Anchor Hocking 2-Gallon Heritage Hill Jar, you can see it by pasting this info into the search tool at amazon.com. I bought mine at Walmart. It has great proportions for kombucha brewing. > > You know I have been eyeballing this jar for some time and wished I had > ordered this one instead of the horrid other, a nightmare!
