Guest guest
Kathy, is he, at least, buying you stuff? (Sorry, couldn't help myself.) I wonder if the " other drugs " your kids are on are the difference here. It's really too bad the psychiatrist hasn't been helpful. Maybe you could get him to try someone new? stinkydogkid <stinkydogkid@...> wrote: My kids are on this drug along with other drugs and they seem to be helping. My DH has suffered with anxiety his entire life and has always been treated by a pscyhiatrist who continually gives SSRIs which make things worse. At any rate, my DH told him about the girls success and asked this doc to be put on risperdol. I thought that was a mistake. Shouldnt the doctor know himself? At any rate now he is happier, I guess but is having trouble sleeping and shopping like crazy. I am worried. Kathy --------------------------------- Looking for last minute shopping deals? Guest guest
--- Hi , Yes, I have been trying to convince him to see someone else for YEARS. His doctor has tried unsuccessfully for SIX years to treat him with SSRI's. Meanwhile the girls have been round and round with doctors who couldnt help. Finally we found a medical genius who has helped both of them with different risperdol combinations of drugs. My DH told his six year long psychiatrist about this and finally (after his doctor had to consult five other docs) agreed to try him on invega. I still want him to see the doctor that helped my girls. Cincinnati is short on qualified psychiatrist, esp if you have any type of non typical anxiety/depression or bi polar. His shopping is for Christmas, the kids, the huge tree, kind of over the top. He is like that anyway, but the problem is i am a stay at home mom to three kids, and we cant really afford it, that is the problem. I am making an appointment for him for the new doctor since he wont take action himself. Apparently he trusts the six year old doctor because they did a lot of talk therapy. and he is bonded, etc. In , lisa fishman <noahfsmom@...> wrote: > > Kathy, > is he, at least, buying you stuff? Guest guest
Did I read right that you are in Cincinnati? I am in Dayton and have my daughter at a psych at Cinc. Children's. If you think Cincinnati is weak...you would not believe how sad Dayton is!!! stinkydogkid <stinkydogkid@...> wrote: --- Hi , Yes, I have been trying to convince him to see someone else for YEARS. Guest guest
---Yes, you did read Cincinnati. And its real weak. Yes, I certainly believe how weak Dayton is. It took us two years and four doctors before someone could treat. Our CCHMC doctor quite in the middle of a serious side effect of prozac and had no replacement. The wait was horrendous and worst yet, they couldnt figure it out, and when they did they quite. We finally found an excellent private practice doc that returns phone calls. A miracle around here. Guest guest
Do you mind me emailing you personally and asking you about your child/symptoms/and doctors? I haven't had anyone quit on me but I feel like I just keep hearing the same story over and over and we are getting no where!! Thanks! stinkydogkid <stinkydogkid@...> wrote: ---Yes, you did read Cincinnati. And its real weak. Yes, I certainly believe how weak Dayton is. Guest guest
Hi Colette, Just saw your strand, not sure your circumstance, but thought I'd jump in to add my two cents. Our son was on celexa, increased to 60 - 80mg, became hypomanic, dose was lowered to 40mg, and risperidol added at .50mg and, in his words, " his brain flipped " , he started a compulsion of carving into his arms (we didn't know), and within 5 days was hospitalized because of a very scary violent episode. We were never given any definitive explanation of what happened, but in my view he was manic/psychotic/something. We have bipolar in our family, possibly both sides, and my sense is that with this genetic predisposition you can get more side effects/reactions to these medications. We did seek an oppinion from a second doctor who believes there is underlying bipolar. At this point we are in wait and see mode on this... I have no great answers for you, we are still " playing " with medications ourselves.... Our son has been on 20mg celexa with depakote 750mg for 7 months and has been better than when he just had the celexa alone, but we remain concerned that his behavior and compulsions (wanting to harm others) are not simply the ocd, but possibly caused or aggravated by the medications. We are now trying reducing the depakote to see what happens... If you think I could help I would be happy to discuss more off-line. Guest guest
Hi all: Just to add my two cents to the picture, my son has been termed " very resistent " to the SRI therapy. He gets suicidal, hypomanic, etc. long before the docs can get him to a dose that will touch the anxiety. He is on risperadal, and has been on a low dose of risperadal for almost 2 years. He swears that helps him more than the sri drugs. Unfortunately, although it calms him down, it does not really make his ocd symptoms quiet down. So I am at a loss as to what we should do now. The FDA has approved risperadal as a mood stabilizer -- and my package insert says that it is used to treat mania. So I am guessing that it is not expected to INDUCE mania. Hope it helps. mm > > > > Do you mind me emailing you personally and asking you about your > child/symptoms/and doctors? Guest guest
- Yes, I am happy to help. I have been working thru this Cincinnati system for over two years now and went through 3 o4 four different psychiatrist, and two counselors, including treatment at CCHMC. I think this thread lists my email or send me yours, or you can ask here, I am happy to help. I am not sure but think these notes link to a email. Let me know if that works.
