Guest guest
I know it is frustrating and confusing sometimes! We wish our bodies were like calculators, eat X amount of calories, burn off Y much with exercise and get Z results. Unfortunately, it just ain't that simple, sigh. Keep posting your frustrations when you have them, we're here to help! Hugs, Re: 's weigh in today It sounds like might not be eating enough, especially if this is a typical day for you. Again, if it is typical, it sounds as if you're getting very little protein too (yes I know beans are an excellent source of protein, but make sure you're eating enough of them and/or other sources to meet your nutritional needs). You need protein in order to build muscle and, I think, metabolize fat too. All the weight training in the world won't help if you're not getting enough protein. Muscle is extremely important for weight loss and maintenance because muscle, unlike fat, is an active tissue that burns calories at a much higher rate, even at rest, than fat. A very small piece of chocolate cake is not going to cause a weight gain, especially with how little you ate overall. Besides, if your body didn't like it I'm pretty sure you'd know because you'd have been sick to your stomach or had other digestive issues (much more typical), it doesn't react by gaining weight, at least not that I'm aware of. I'd suggest figuring out the calories of what you ate and I'm sure it won't come out to much. I have seen many (many, many) people have their weight loss come to a standstill and even experience gains because they are not eating enough. It is super frustrating because it does not sound logical but, if you are not getting enough calories (also known as fuel) your body simply cannot metabolize fat because it needs every calorie you do give it just to sustain your basic body functions. Burning off fat is not essential and can be couteractive to survival if the body decides it is not getting enough base level energy. The chocolate cake was very unlikely the cause of your weight gain. I'm sure there are websites that help you analyze your body's daily caloric needs based on your age, gender, height, weight and activity level, I'd suggest finding one (perhaps someone here can suggest one) and making sure your intake is appropriate for health even more importantly than weight loss. It sounds like you're eating very healthy foods, but it does sound like you might need more of it, especially making sure that as a vegan, you're meeting your iron, protein and other nutritional needs too. Health is much more important than weight loss and weight loss that hurts health is counterproductive. I'm not sure that is what you are doing, you only gave us a tiny snapshot and I'm making big assumptions based on that, plus I'm so tired I can barely see straight so please accept my apologies if I've gone too far with my assumptions. You've been doing extremely well, and I know any gain is super frustrating and upsetting. I do, I've been there myself and see it every day in my meetings. Hang in there and do the best things for your health and weight loss will follow. You CAN continue to lose weight, this might just have been a weird week. You might be retaining water for unknown reasons. You might have a great week next week and have no obvious explanation for it either. My biggest message is do not make big changes based on one week's results. Weight gain or loss is sometimes very difficult to understand (it is about calorie deficit but there's more too) and our bodies do not just do what we want because we think we've done all the right things. There is a complicated interplay of chemical (including hormonal) reactions going on too that may have unexpected and, seemingly inexplicable results too. That's why I say one week does not make a trend and does not call for drastic changes. Guest guest
Good carbs (complex ones, like in whole grains, fruit, etc.) plus protein = serious satiety which in turn = less nibbling because you're just not hungry. Complex carbs also = stable blood sugar. Carbs can be very good, if they're complex. Too bad marshmallows (my latest stupid food, thank you Easter) definitely do not have complex carbs. Ah well, the bag will be gone soon! ;-) Re: 's weigh in today Protein IS a must, too little and your body starts metabolizing your muscle which is no bueno.Carbs aren't your enemy, we need to remember there are good carbs and bad carbs. I eat too many bad carbs and not enough good ones. When I do eat more whole grains for example I feel better, have more energy and am less hungry. I slack here quite a bit though and I know part of it is because I suck at prepping them myself.I love Quinoa for example but I really need to pick it up at Whole Foods already prepped and dressed. My schedule does not lend to frequent cooking and what I have been getting in the past hasn't been high fat or low protein but it hasn't featured much in the whole grain category. There are some new folks in Austin though that I will be getting some of my preprepped meals from and they DO have a better selection of items that include whole grain ingredients.I'm stoked about it. ;-)aWho is limited to mostly oatmeal grainwise during the week.> > >> > > Not a good one today. Guest guest
Any rice or just brown rice? Brown rice is a complex carb, white rice ain't. I'd be surprised if white rice is approved. Agreed about the storing as fat if you get too much, definitely true of any foods, including healthy ones. I've heard the suggestion about eating them earlier in the day and that works if you have a life schedule that allows for that. Go for it on your goals, , that is fantastic! Re: Re: 's weigh in today Oatmeal, rice and sweet potatoes are on the bodybuilder approved carbs. If you have too many though, even the good ones, it gets stored as fat. They suggest you eat them earlier in the day, no carbs at night. These guidelines have really helped me a lot lately.. ideally I will continue to eat this way, keep up my strength workouts so when I do see Noel again in a few months I'll be RIPPED and 10-15 lbs lighter! Guest guest
LOL on the marshmallows, DH gave me a bag of jelly beans for Easter and they are already gone. Jelly Beans in the spring and cand corn in the fall are my downfalls. I only limit myself to one bag per season. Guest guest
I'm the same way except I try not to get the bags anymore, it is just pure trouble. Guest guest
Congratulations !! Thats wonderful!!! You will be in the 150s soon!! a > > > Yay, finally I had a decent weigh in. Today I am down 4.8 pounds from last week for a weight of 162. For some reason the last two weeks I had some mystery pounds hanging on from somewhere. I am so excited, only 3 pounds more to be in the 150's. I haven't gotten this low ever before. I gained weight when i was pregnant with my 27 year old son and have kept it ever since.
