Guest guest
Hi , You will get there - and, as pointed out - it could be water retention or at least some of the "weight gain" may be water retention that will be gone in a couple of days. "Bad" eating often results in water retention - especially eating out - where they add lots of sodium to the food. I think too many carbs also cause you to retain water. Take care, Donna Well, I had 3 bad eating days this week so I knew I would have to pay the price for it. I am up 3.6 pounds, back to 183 again. I hit this weight originally back in January and have just been hovering near ever since. I hit the 170's but just can't seem to stay there. I have going to have to kick myself in the butt and move forward from here. Have a great day everyone. in CA No virus found in this outgoing message.Checked by AVG - www.avg.comVersion: 9.0.733 / Virus Database: 271.1.1/2732 - Release Date: 03/08/10 23:33:00 No virus found in this incoming message.Checked by AVG - www.avg.com Version: 9.0.733 / Virus Database: 271.1.1/2732 - Release Date: 03/08/10 23:33:00-----Inline Attachment Follows----- No virus found in this outgoing message.Checked by AVG - www.avg.com Version: 9.0.733 / Virus Database: 271.1.1/2732 - Release Date: 03/08/10 23:33:
Guest guest
Good morning all, today was a good weigh in. Last week I had gained 3.6 mystery pounds for no apparent reason. This week those are back off along with another 3.5 for a total of 6 pounds off this week. I was getting tired of see little gains for no reason and minimal weight coming off so I made a few changes this week that may have helped. I did buy an exercise bike and have been riding it daily (except for yesterday), I also gave up most of the soda and have started drinking water, I have been drinking 8 glasses daily, except for one day where I only got in 6. I have changed from a low fat vegetarian diet, to a fat free vegan diet. I weighed in this morning at 177, down from 183 last week. I am so happy to be back in the 170's, I had made it to 179 back on Feb. 23rd but have then had some crazy gains every week for no apparent reason. I am very happy this week. That is a total of 47 pounds lost since Sept. 1. Have a great day everyone. in CA No virus found in this outgoing message. Guest guest
Just me jumping in, not a nutritionist either but, WW teaches us that your body needs healthy fats especially for hair, skin and nail health and, DIGESTION! People who go with low fat or non-fat diets run a higher risk of gallbladder issues and women are already at higher risk, plus women who are overweight have that much more risk, plus women with a family history have even more risk. The hair, skin and nail health issues that are common are very dry skin, hair falling out, etc. WW recommends at least two teaspoons of healthy oils daily (healthy oils defined by WW are canola, olive, sunflower, safflower and flaxseed oils) for everyone. Getting those in has made huge differences for me. I've especially noticed better digestive processes (I'll leave it there but will say it has helped me with weight loss and maintenance) and my hairdresser has noticed my thin hair is getting thicker. I feel better when I get them in too! Glad to hear you're back on the losing track and doing great things overall for your health! Guest guest
Hi , Try not to stress about the 1.6 lbs - it could really be anything - water retention, etc. There are really total ups and downs to weight loss. A couple of years ago, in my attempt to overcome the scale's hold on me - I weighed myself every single day and the fluctuations from day to day were crazy - I know there is no way to gain or lose 3-5 lbs overnight - so it could be that you jsut had a bad weigh in and in reality that 1.6 lbs could be gone by now. Also, the week before, didn't you ahve a large loss? Sometimes the body compensates - you know the two steps forward, one step back thing. I would hesitate to restrict your calories even more - 1500 is already pretty low and if you go too low you may end up slowing your metabolism down plus, it is difficult to get all the nutrients you need on a low calorie diet. I know it is counter-intuitive but you may actually need more calories to trick your body into releasing more weight. Another idea is to vary your calories form day to day to keep your body in a 'guessing" mode - set a calorie total for the week and one day do 1200, one day 1800, one day 1500, etc. just to keep your body on its toes. Also, adding in more strength training would help too since it builds muscle which increases your resting metabolic rate. Try not to be discouraged, though! You're doing all the right things, but sometimes our bodies just need to "catch up" ((HUGS)) Donna From: Navarro <navarrosarah@...>Subject: 's weigh in today"undisclosed recipients" <navarrosarah@...>Date: Tuesday, April 6, 2010, 8:29 AM Not a good one today. I don't like to do that because then I get so hungry, but this just ain't working. Right now I have been staying around 1500 calories a day, I may have to go down to 1200 and see what happens. Guest guest
No, I am a vegan and do not eat meat. For Easter all I had was asparagus with no salt, some green salad, a small slice of french bread with no butter, some pinto beans with no salt and a very small piece of chocolate cake. I guess it was the cake that did it. I haven' t eaten any junk for a long while so maybe my body didn't like it. I have cut out pretty much all the sodium from my diet in the last few months. Guest guest
It sounds like might not be eating enough, especially if this is a typical day for you. Again, if it is typical, it sounds as if you're getting very little protein too (yes I know beans are an excellent source of protein, but make sure you're eating enough of them and/or other sources to meet your nutritional needs). You need protein in order to build muscle and, I think, metabolize fat too. All the weight training in the world won't help if you're not getting enough protein. Muscle is extremely important for weight loss and maintenance because muscle, unlike fat, is an active tissue that burns calories at a much higher rate, even at rest, than fat. A very small piece of chocolate cake is not going to cause a weight gain, especially with how little you ate overall. Besides, if your body didn't like it I'm pretty sure you'd know because you'd have been sick to your stomach or had other digestive issues (much more typical), it doesn't react by gaining weight, at least not that I'm aware of. I'd suggest figuring out the calories of what you ate and I'm sure it won't come out to much. I have seen many (many, many) people have their weight loss come to a standstill and even experience gains because they are not eating enough. It is super frustrating because it does not sound logical but, if you are not getting enough calories (also known as fuel) your body simply cannot metabolize fat because it needs every calorie you do give it just to sustain your basic body functions. Burning off fat is not essential and can be couteractive to survival if the body decides it is not getting enough base level energy. The chocolate cake was very unlikely the cause of your weight gain. I'm sure there are websites that help you analyze your body's daily caloric needs based on your age, gender, height, weight and activity level, I'd suggest finding one (perhaps someone here can suggest one) and making sure your intake is appropriate for health even more importantly than weight loss. It sounds like you're eating very healthy foods, but it does sound like you might need more of it, especially making sure that as a vegan, you're meeting your iron, protein and other nutritional needs too. Health is much more important than weight loss and weight loss that hurts health is counterproductive. I'm not sure that is what you are doing, you only gave us a tiny snapshot and I'm making big assumptions based on that, plus I'm so tired I can barely see straight so please accept my apologies if I've gone too far with my assumptions. You've been doing extremely well, and I know any gain is super frustrating and upsetting. I do, I've been there myself and see it every day in my meetings. Hang in there and do the best things for your health and weight loss will follow. You CAN continue to lose weight, this might just have been a weird week. You might be retaining water for unknown reasons. You might have a great week next week and have no obvious explanation for it either. My biggest message is do not make big changes based on one week's results. Weight gain or loss is sometimes very difficult to understand (it is about calorie deficit but there's more too) and our bodies do not just do what we want because we think we've done all the right things. There is a complicated interplay of chemical (including hormonal) reactions going on too that may have unexpected and, seemingly inexplicable results too. That's why I say one week does not make a trend and does not call for drastic changes. (off to bed now, for real) 's weigh in today Not a good one today. I'm not sure why. I didn't even have any Easter candy or anything that I wasn't supposed to. I am up 1.6 pounds to 174. How depressing. I guess I may have to seriously cut my calories down. I don't like to do that because then I get so hungry, but this just ain't working. Right now I have been staying around 1500 calories a day, I may have to go down to 1200 and see what happens. I am not going to work today because I have to go to jury duty today. Guest guest
Way to go, a!! 8 lbs lost is terrific! :)I agree with what you say, you need to fuel your body for your workouts. Protein is a must. I didn't start losing weight til I upped my protein and reduced my carbs.. I would very your calorie intake a bit day to day to keep your body guessing and prevent it from going into fat hoard mode. I'm 162 right now, but was recently at 170 and normally average in the 150s. (Thanks medication) I have found that my body looses the most when I stay at about 1700 calories a day with 6 hours of intense training per week. a Who is happy her scale is finally going back towards normal. > > Not a good one today. Guest guest
Good reminders Nanacy! I had a crappy lunch, but I'm having a sensible ham and bean soup this evening (The US Senate cafeteria recipe). So tomorrow when I way myself - ony a fraction will be the burger from lunch right? Gosh, I hope so. The burger was not THAT good. However, in a flip side brag, I worked a fundraiser last night and ate only ONE potato chip and drank mineral water not booze from the free open full bar. Then I came home did 45 min of Dance Your Ass of the workout and 7 miles on the bike at level 6 of 16. a > > Hi , > > Did you have ham on Easter? If so, you could just be retaining a lot of water. Ham is VERY salty and you could easily be retaining quite a lot of water (pounds worth, not ounces). I did 3 Weight Watchers meetings today and 3 yesterday too and way more people gained weight than is usual. Part of that is, no doubt, due to too much indulgence but a lot of it I'm sure is also water weight and a lot of people, especially if they stick to their plan, will be down nicely next week. You could be one of those. > > Cutting calories too far, on a regular basis, will backfire. Not might, WILL. Your metabolism will slow waaaaaay down in response because you need a certain amount of calories in order to allow your body to drop pounds. Since you're exercising too, you need to make sure you eat enough. Eating less does NOT equal losing more. One week's lousy weigh-in does not signify a trend either and I do not recommend anyone do anything drastic based on one week's weigh-in, especially not just after a big holiday (with salty foods). > > (seriously exhausted after a loooong day, loooooon weekend too... am sleeping in a bit instead of working out tomorrow morning, if I have time later in the afternoon or evening I'll work out but right now, sleep is my priority) > > > > 's weigh in today > > > > > Not a good one today. Guest guest
Protein IS a must, too little and your body starts metabolizing your muscle which is no bueno. Carbs aren't your enemy, we need to remember there are good carbs and bad carbs. I eat too many bad carbs and not enough good ones. When I do eat more whole grains for example I feel better, have more energy and am less hungry. I slack here quite a bit though and I know part of it is because I suck at prepping them myself.I love Quinoa for example but I really need to pick it up at Whole Foods already prepped and dressed. My schedule does not lend to frequent cooking and what I have been getting in the past hasn't been high fat or low protein but it hasn't featured much in the whole grain category. There are some new folks in Austin though that I will be getting some of my preprepped meals from and they DO have a better selection of items that include whole grain ingredients.I'm stoked about it. ;-) a Who is limited to mostly oatmeal grainwise during the week. > > > > > > Not a good one today. Guest guest
Oatmeal, rice and sweet potatoes are on the bodybuilder approved carbs. If you have too many though, even the good ones, it gets stored as fat. They suggest you eat them earlier in the day, no carbs at night. These guidelines have really helped me a lot lately.. ideally I will continue to eat this way, keep up my strength workouts so when I do see Noel again in a few months I'll be RIPPED and 10-15 lbs lighter!
