Guest guest
don't watch this unless you want to be sad or angry http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SuohTq7zw0I I met with a professor telling her I wanted to work with children and not force them to come to this world but build a bridge and help them to want to be in this world. (well that has a whole loaded implication) But suffice it to say in order to communicate in this language of (for me english) In order to get needs met, and navigate life. I was told my ideas were subjective and not based in research. I guess not if being compared to ABA But then I found this: Barry Prizant recently has collaborated with parents, artists and persons with ASD in forming the NEST Group, focusing on the importance of Nurturing and Expanding Strengths and Talents for persons with ASD and related disabilities. This group has met regularly over the past two years in New York City and Providence, and has presented two conferences on the NEST theme. The NEST Group is in the process of completing a full-length documentary including Temple Grandin, Shore, and many children and families. So this sounds like what I was hoping for, and where I hope to be going with my degree. I would like to see acceptance and respect for personhood and uniqueness light the way to learning. This is my silver lining after being depressed, hoping that people will win in a real and meaningful less synthetic way (and of course in a way that doesn't produce system deletions and side effects)
