Guest guest
ok so Pragmatics. Science and psychology are ignoring the biological facts (or they know them and are using them to their advantage) 1)We don't like fighting and prefer reasoning 2)Different brain structure can't be cured 3)Some adults and children show sensetivity to the poisioning of their environment 4)Money is going into reasearch not people 5)We don't need cures; we need better (oh government, schools, training) 6)Finger pointing as the us vs them mentality isn't helpful, and we don't need well meaning people to describe our suffering(our suffering occcurs when people aren't clear or true usually this is at the hands of opressive individuals or well meaning do gooders) 7) AS is not a cute project but it can be used in an effective way, many of us are capable of way more than society currently allows in a sense we are a people a culture and we have depth of character, loyality, many can understand and keep to long term goals. We understand that the future is sown today This is my personal opinion but the misunderstanding comes from not getting what the more affected children need. wether it is removal of toxins or different modes of teaching or both. visual learning, allowing perseveration and using it(as long as it is not violent or abusive) there should be intensive training WITH families to help them help themselves not a push to break up a family because a child doesn't meet expectations. People should strive to live in their own homes and that is what these groups should strive for. Keeping the family together. My own an example. I was told husbands don't stay when this happens they leave (that expectation and it's silent approval(by that expectation) destroyed our family. We were getting NT counceling in the home. WE needed someone with experience. Both myself and my ex were stretched beyond our abilities at the hands of people that meant well. In many areas they helped in many they created the mess that was my life for 2+ years. If someone had just allowed me the knowledge instead of my having to hunt and peck. If I didn't have to fight everyone in my family and the professionals to help my child, I might have had something left over for a marriage. I had to act because no one was. Everything is not Autism. It is like saying everyone that is blonde is a Nazi or everyone with brown hair is a jew and they should be treated that way. Medical issues are medical, cognitive ones are cognition. If one's vision is poor ABA therapy won't get them to see better. If a child has a toothache and is non-verbal. Self abuse becomes language. (all language isn't verbal but compassion is a great translator) Autism does speak BUT Autism Speaks doesn't listen. They accept the imposed limits of thousands of children and force them into a life of need. Start the Children's voice, or People Listen WE Do understand body language our feeling of the young woman on U-tube proved that. we felt her we saw her movements. PEOPLE LIE even when they say yes and exude yes they want you to understand they mean no. They lie to themselves. I read body language, and tone of voice better than faces, because so many emotions are mixed (several at once) Smug That is a doozy. satisfaction at having bested another. sounds loaded to me but it is not enough. Is the intention to prove intelligence, bully, thrill that finally truth is seen. All three is is more petty and creul. So much in one face. I have to know and watch people and determine them prior to facial expression because that is least reliable. Watch hands, tone of voice, you get a feel for a person. faces Bah. Sometimes i mess up my own facial expressions. fear is usually what one might see. i am waiting for the outcome. I get insulted easily because other people don't even know how well i understood. It is like looking into a person's head and seeing what they are trying to hide. but I do see it because I read them like I read books. I approach people warily, because sometimes they don't even know what they are doing. I am sure if you askes Autism speaks they would say they care and genuinely want to help. They don't see themselves

Guest guest
Personally I think Mimi came up with a really good postive Idea, start our own group, we could make it international, and therefor fight Autism Speaks, from an international basis, rather, that only fighting them from America. I welcome the suport of our brother and sisters from other lands. We have our own unity our own bond we are all on the Autistic spectrum and therefor are our own family in a way. I have never really felt understood before I joined this forum. I never felt listened to or really heard. Here I am with like people so the do hear me and understand me. There is more knowledge and more facts in our Files alone than many years of reasearch will be able to provide for Autism Speaks. We just have to find a way to get it out to other people and to finance it. To gain monitary and govermental support, if we could get companies and bigger names involved we might actually have something here. Beth > >> > > True. Guest guest
I remember that, maurice. Fsct of the matter is, AUTISM SPEAKS has joined forces with CURE AUTISM NOW and the NATIONAL ALLIANCE for AUTISM RESEACH (NAAR). There is AUTISM SPEAKS: CANADA as well as AUTISM SPEAKS: UK. All this has been done in just over two years since AUTISM SPEAKS first began. The fact that it is growing so quickly and gaining such huge momentum while pushing for a cure and hoping to erase autistics from future history is appalling and disconcerting to say the least. I believe that appropriate education regarding what autism is, how one is born autistic, et al is most likely the best way to reach people. In removing the fear of Autism from people's minds, they are then more able to open their hearts to the wonderful diversity of a world with ASD and non-ASD people in it. While my apologies for not having heard of these, it must also be a good sign - that they aren't at all prominent among the public, only among doctors. I will inform my local friends of it. We already know we got to keep strong against doctors. All online groups and real-life local groups that believe this, could try to form a contact list with each other? So they can all respond to dangers. I realise I would never have been first to come up with a thought like this. I had a feeling many folks here including Tom were really discouraged and jaded about any thoughts of forming groups, when so many have already gone wrong at a personal level. Only now that others have talked of groups and apparently got as keen response, am I seeing positive reason to throw in a thought about it. > I believe that appropriate education regarding what autism is, how one > is born autistic, et al is most likely the best way to reach people. Guest guest
I've been giving this some thought and processing. Originally when first posted (a while back) I commented I would like to give 'Autism Speaks' a piece of my mind - I'd certainly like to show them that yes autism does have a voice and is quite capable of speaking and not having someone else assume what I or my son wants or countless others. In regards to this group, there are many members; I do understand that not all participate, but if every member of this group wrote a letter/email to 'Autism Speaks' that would be quite a lot of email/letters. Writing to Autism Speaks is certainly something I am considering doing, although I must admit I suspect such will fall on deaf ears; as I have a sneaky suspicion although the group claim to speak on the behalf of others I suspect they aren't too good at listening. Also I have to pick my battles wisely and am still in process of fighting Social Services here and also involved in trying to get services for those on the autism spectrum locally. I do certainly think that 'Autism Speaks' needs speaking out agaisnt and people need to be aware that they are not accurately representing those on the autism spectrum - there audacity to speak on the behalf of others (as well as other things) has me very angry. > > > > There is AUTISM SPEAKS: CANADA as well as AUTISM > > SPEAKS: UK. > > While my apologies for not having heard of these, it must also be a > good sign - that they aren't at all prominent among the public, only > among doctors. Guest guest
For those of you newbies, a little history. The fellow who posts below and who has said " Well excuse the hell out of me, I don't reply so I'm apathetic? " is a troll who drops in from time to time. Our general policy has been to give folks the benefit of the doubt for a while in the hopes that they will eventually find peace and harmony here. For some, as with this fellow, that doesn't seem to happen. I am reading posts in the order they appear, and since this fellow has quit again, I more likely than not will NOT respond to anything he has written since he has no way to respond to anything I post. After reading the ensuing posts, I will make an election to ban him or keep his user ID open so as to allow him to rejoin. If I ban him, he will never be able to post here again. If they judge according to their own standards that they cannot raise a child such as yours, and then tell you that you should possibly reconcile yourself that he needs to be sent away, it is a backhanded admission that they are less capable parents than you. Here is where, as an Aspie, I would consider responding to their statement with " Thanks for the honest compliment! " and appear crazy to them because of the apparent non-sequitor. " Actually my main issue is with You Know Who and their coalition. If the rest of us formed a coalition, I might be inclined to get behind it, but You Know Who pretty much has everyone on their side which is: " Aspies to UN: We are a Minority and demand Minority Status! " Aside from the fact that I cannot stand YKW's subterfuge and hijacking of Wikipedia, I disagree with their methods and who they have representing them. Research the personal lives of some of these people, and should their progressive movement that comes under the scruitny of the media, it will blast them out of the water and do us all more harm than good. The key thing would be to siphon off all the members of their coaliton to a new one, but YKW would see this as a direct attack on them instead of a new more practical and level-headed movement coalescing, and they would jeopardize the entire movement for the sake of keeping YKW intact. They would torpedo anything that we could cobble together or die trying. In recent years they almost lost their Wiki page over a bunch of people who challenged them. Their power comes of everyone telling me three years ago to keep my fat mouth shut about the whole thing. I finally gave in to everyone's pleas and shut up. Their power was small then but is big now. And so now the biggest autistic political force in the world is driven by disreputable people and what they are fighting for is laughed at by the common public. When I talk to people about autism, invariably Wrong Planet is mentioned if the subject of online forums is brought up, and then many of them say something along the lines of " I heard there was this really stupid group out there that wants autistics to be declared a minority. " Etc. Autistics are only now beginning to understand what a mistake it was to allow a select misguided few to mislead them, but they are too disorganized to do anything about it, and all the fight has been sapped from me. I've given that stuff up. So in regard to battling them, everyone is on their own. If people were too stupid to listen to me in the first place, it is not my fault all this happened, but theirs. Let them clean up their own mess. Currently Raven and I are brewing some different avenues for autistics to have a voice. Perhaps sooner or later you will all hear news of this.
