Guest guest
I wondering if anyone on the list might know of groups that advocate for HIV+ individuals trying to immigrate to the US, or that can provide pro bono legal advice--especially in the LA/SoCal area. A positive friend of mine is married to an HIV+ Australian man (a straight couple) and after years of going by the book and jumping through the hoops to request residency, he was denied because of his status. They said it was because he was deemed " a burden on the US healthcare system " even though he demonstrated proof that he would qualify for and could afford insurance in California to cover his healthcare. I was under the impression that HIV discrimination was no longer legal--is this true? I was appalled to hear this story, and of course his wife is devastated that she's being kept apart from her husband. I'm posting this on her behalf as she's not on this list, so please reply to me/and or the list and I'll forward any useful info. Thanks in advance,Jeff
