I'm not an expert but I'd look online, I'm sure there's a lot of good info out there!Noel has me on 150 carbs per day, no more than 25 grams of fat per day. It does require keeping up a food journal.. When I adhere to this I wind up being around 1700 calories or so. I don't always succeed, but did well today, I was very good and give myself an "A" for today's eating. I had:

6:45 egg, 98% fat free ham on a safeway wheat bun with mustard9:45 1/2 cup oatmeal with dried cherries, used water instead of almond milk12:30 4 oz shrimp on a salad, no dressing (lettuce, spinach, tomatoes, onions)

2:00 4 oz chicken, 1/2 cup rice5:00 four tofu salad rolls w/peanut sauce (2 tblspoons peanut butter, 2 tblspoons plum sauce, water, hot chili)9:00 pm cassein protein shakeI did 3 hours of exercise today

Thanks for getting back with me Kassia. I saw you post on FB about the July challenge. I'm not doing very well on the challenge yet....hope to start exercising more soon. I have an eye infection (Opthalmologist thinks it's an infection) so it makes reading/typing posts difficult. I try to balance the foods that I eat. I need to eat more vegetables and more salads again. I'm happy to finally be losing a little weight...better than nothing right? you add all the calories for each ingredient and then divide by portions... so say ( I am making all of this up)ingredient - caloriespasta - 100vegetable 50sauce 100total cal 250. if serves 5--- 50 calories per serving.. There are online programs that do it for you. check out sparkpeople. WW online does it for me for my points (but I need calories, fat and fiber to calculate WW Point)From:

I've been tracking my food with my fitbit and it says my average calorie intake is 1,372. I think it's higher than that because some foods I eat like homemade chicken and noodles I guess at the calorie count. It should be pretty accurate though as I enter a higher calorie value for foods I'm not sure about. I don't have access to a dietician or nutritionist and can't afford to pay for one now. I know what I should eat but was hoping someone on here could tell me where my calorie range should fall per day to lose weight. On the news it said that 1/8 of people didn't know how many calories to eat to lose weight...I guess that goes for many of us here. I know that one range can't go for everyone since we all have our own issues with metabolism and hormones

etc.... My tanita scale says I need to eat about 2,500 calories to maintain my weight and I've been way under that. I guess I'm doing pretty good since my weight has finally started to go down. Jen

Hmm... I wonder if that is too low? I think I read somewhere that you shouldn't go below 1,200 - and that is close!

Hey, I wonder if Tonya is around - she may know a good base "formula" to start with.

Do you have to create a deficit of 3,500 calories per week to lose one pound per week? I vaguely remember somenthing like that....if that is the case, and if your scale is correct in that you need 2,500 to maintain, just going to 2,000 per day would result in a 3,500 deficit. It is a tricky balance, b/c I think going too low can cause your weight loss to stall - seems so counter-intuitive, doesn't it?

its possible to that weight plateaus from too little calories. most suggested in general talk is 1500-1900 for active women and more for extremely active women. i used to have a little card i got for guesstimating calories but i haven't gotten that far in cleaning yet. i know i didn't get rid of it i just don't remember where i put it in my piles of papers. i am still working on making cards out of magazine workouts and i am pretty sure its all buried in there somewhere LOLKASSIALDY_SOLANA'S WEBPAGElast purchase 6-29-10owner of 280 workout dvds & 49 fitness related booksFrom: <volleyjen0416@...>Subject: Re: Will someone please answer my calories per day question...? I just really hate to measure things out. I was basically doing that before to figure out my calories. In the summertime it's fine because I'm not as busy with work but in the Fall and winter it will be harder. Oh well, maybe by then I will have most of my stuff in the fitbit online database. Thanks again, Jen

Yea, weight is a crazy thing! I noticed that when I eat more, I will lose weight. And I'm sure that my hypothyroidism has something to do with it. I gained 17 lbs last year because of my hormones being messed up....I didn't over eat and I exercised but still gained, it was very frustrating. My Endocrinologist is still taking care of my hypo. That is such a frustrating disease because it makes people lose their appetites and it slows down their metabolism for everything. I guess I was so busy working I didn't really notice whether I was hungry or not. I am trying to eat 4 or 5 small meals a day. Some days I do better than others. Today I haven't done so well. I think I will have low fat cottage cheese and applesauce for a snack later because I haven't ate

enough for today. I didn't exercise either...bad me! Jen

some i just didn't like at first but once i got on my own and cook(or sometimes not cooked) things in a new way i liked them. my grandma and mom usually boiled lots of veggies wher i like steamed, raw, baked and sauteed. exploring with spices helps me too. i always LOVED fruit but had to learn myself on veggies.KASSIALDY_SOLANA'S WEBPAGElast purchase 6-29-10owner of 280 workout dvds & 49 fitness related books

i would say you are still active b/c of your water exercise! if i ever get back to the pool(viola seems to like the gym more right now LOL) i would do lots of basics like leg lifts and such b/c i think it does work and counts as good exercise i would go 1500-1700 and see how you feel with that.i also don't portion, i eyeball it(years of foodservice will do that i guess LOL) i should at times measure to be sure or buy already pre-portioned(but that gets expensive)KASSIALDY_SOLANA'S WEBPAGElast purchase 6-29-10owner of 280 workout dvds & 49 fitness related booksFrom: <volleyjen0416@...>Subject: Re: Will someone please answer my calories per day question...?
