Guest guest
That's unfortunate. Best wishes. Tonm Administrator I had a cleaning crew by today to clear out the basement. That was going pretty well until we got into the hall. One of the men picked up something and said it looked like the floor was moving. I got a flashlight and sure enough it was. Looks like we might have termites. Well, I've called Orkin tom come have a look and I'm waiting for them to call me back if an inspector can come today. I've postponed the drainage work until I get the termite issue addressed.

Best wishes.TonmAdministrator Thanks, but it doesn't seem to have been too bad. The inspector was just here and it looks like the termite damage was limited to a small area. They might actually be gone now since the cleaning destroyed their habitat. Right now he is working up a plan to treat that area and I'll know the cost before long. I don't think it will be too bad though and I am glad that the damage wasn't extensive. My fear was having to do lots of repairs on the house, but that doesn't seem likely now. This is the house you will be selling to move? Costly repairs at the end to make a sale don't seem worth it as the prospective buyer may dislike any new changes. Well hope it is as painless as possible No, this is just maintenance that has been put off and needs to be done. The basement was very nice when we moved in here about 20 years ago. Over time, and especially after the sewer replacement, water would get in the basement and made it very wet and unpleasant. Now, I've got some money to spare and can get some work done. The plan was to clean out the basement, waterseal the walls and other things to cut the dampness and water intrusion. Then, the basement room would be fitted out again to a livable room. The termites interfered with that plan, but it wasn't bad. The estimate for treatment, outdoor barrier around the house and monitoring was $1,280. That's not bad as I was fearing much more and then costs of repairs on top of that. I'll be getting that done on Tuesday. After that, I can get estimates on getting the basement up and running. I was having the work done tomorrow but had to reschedule. A few things have to be moved out of the way for them, but I've got a nasty head cold right now and so I wouldn't have been able to wear a dust mask like I would need to. It was no problem though to get it staged back until this Friday. Should be good enough to get things cleared by then. See what's new at AOL.com and Make AOL Your Homepage.
