Guest guest
Hi Janet If he has been constipated from birth, it may indicate that there is a functional problem underlying it. By this I mean that some part of the colon mechanism or the support system which helps food transit down the colon is not working properly at the moment. Clearly the movacol etc is simply clearing the problem but NOT addressing the cause. I think that Movacol has some chemicals in it which are not good longterm and may toxify the liver. Each of us will have our own experiences and suggestions here on the group which is brilliant as it gives lots of avenues for you to choose to pursue. The best long term support that appears to address causes and not symptoms for ME has been working with Scotson at Advance Centre and starting The Scotson Technique. There is a separate section in the files section of this group which explains a lot more about the technique. When you look at your son has he got an unusual shaped rib cage? is it very sticky out or very long and narrow? or does he breath in an irregular or kinda jerky breath? if so this may indicate that the diaphragm is not sitting properly on top of the colon.. Normally the diaphragm sits on top of the colon so that on each exhalation the colon is gently massaged by the diaphragm and this massage vibration helps the food to transit down the colon. If food is not transitting then the liquid in the poo is reabsorbed and constipation begins. TST helps to position the diaphragm and strengthen the breathing mechanism which addresses constipation as well as to alleviate some of the other ASD issues like sleeplessness and muscle tone. Guest guest
Just checking Isobel.. have always been told clockwise massage around belly button for constipation, anti clockwise for diarrhoea and to assist with constipation to stroke from knee to hip bone on outer thigh as this relaxes muscles in colon and anus to allow passage of poo. Guest guest
Thanks for the information- physically he looks okay other than the distention that is. The consultant said that there was nothing physically wrong although saying that that was after an internal exam to see if the muscles were working as they should round that rectum - not the area you refer to. What do you mean by "muscle tone" though? Making me think now as he is late to walk and still crawling. Guest guest
Hi Janet This is different to what the medics look for. They would not know how to judge position of the diaphragm and if it is correctly sitting on the colon it is out of the conventional field of medicine.. The muscle tone thing is linked in with hypermobility, floppiness or weak muscle strength - sometimes it can show itself in puffiness so the child may look overweight, or a distended shape to the rib and stomach area or in other case in a very skinny frame. This weak muscle tone could result in delay to walking I imagine. His rectal muscles are probably perfect.. however without the vibration on his colon, the food cannot progress down his colon quickly enough to get to the rectal muscles liquid enough to be excreted. Guest guest
Lactulose is a synthetic double sugar molecule and doesn't / shouldn't contain casein. However many children get better poo wise just by removing dairy so its worth doing that ,then gluten or grain free diet GAPS diet which is big on juicing, soups , probiotics as is or via fermented foods. There are lots of supplements that can help.Constipation is the root of sooooo many problems.... I so wish I had realised this when my son was little. Guest guest
Hi, The main one that people use is Oxypowder which you can buy from Mandimart. Have a look at it, and then ask lots of questions cos it's quite complicated to use. On 12/10/2010 20:58, DJ P wrote: Hi Nina, What supplements are you referring to that can help? Guest guest
I thought this forum was ABE (autism BIOMEDICAL Europe) TST is a therapy to go alongside biomed. I am all for TST and have just applied, but you need the biomed interventions also. That should be made clear to all newcomers > > > > > > Hi, > > > > I'm new to the group and have 2 children who have different problems but > > related to gut issues. > > > > My son (19 months) has been severely constipated since birth and generally > > very unsettled. Guest guest
hi ds 1 has an inflamed gut lining and can cause him some trouble, he has been severely constipated for like, ever, hes been on a combination of movicol - even at 12 scahets a day it didnt work, never cleared his impaction, sodoim picolinate, liquid paraffin which worked great if you didnt mind the terrible staining of pants which was mortifying for my 12 yr old, and senna. We started using oxypowder and have never looked back, only once has he complained of pain whilst using it and that was at the end of the clear out period, which takes 7 days, he complained of pain on the 6th day, so he didnt have a dose on the 7th, left it 2 days and now he has 1 every day and hes fine, doesnt need all that dreadful stuff anymore. hth emma > > Hi, > > I'm new to the group and have 2 children who have different problems but related to gut issues. > > My son (19 months) has been severely constipated since birth and generally very unsettled.
