Hi Mandi

The best that I can offer is what Andy Cutler has said in reply to my son's

Thyroid tests when he was 5 which had similar ref. ranges.

His results were as follows:

> TSH 0.7 mU/L (0.40 - 4.00)

> fT4 13 pmol/L (10 - 20)

> fT3 6.9pmol/L (2.8 - 6.8)

Andy said and I quote:

" Free T3 is quite different for adults and children, they should be using an age

dependent normal range (which most labs don't and few doctors remember to

check).

The appropriate normal range for a child under 8 is about 3.8 to 10.4 in these

units " .

Which actually put my son's fT3's a little on the low side.

I checked with the Lab that analyzed the test and they confirmed that the

ref.ranges were Universal, meaning 6 months to old age unless on Iodine or

thyroid supplementation.

Andy has said that ideally a childs fT3 should be in the upper 1/3 of the

appropriate ref. range.

All the best

Kenny
