What type of biking will you do? that is what determines type of bikes. To be honest a decent road bike will run $1000 new. You can find GREAT deals on craigslist and ebay. My boyfriend buys old bikes at thrift shops (for $50) and cleans them up and sells for $200!judyFrom: Darcy Ledman <exercise.junkie@...> < >Sent: Thu, February 4, 2010 9:10:59 AMSubject: / Judy (bike info needed please!)

So, I THINK DH and I are going to splurge and get some bikes. I'm very excited, but also very clueless!!!! I am thinking something on the lower price end.. maybe low-medium?? We don't want to spend a pile as we don't know how much the boys will like it. One of us would have to pull the boys in a trailer (which we do have), and then one we'd have to get a seat on one for Kaysar. Any recommendations at all? I really have no idea!!

You can mail off-list if preferred?! Thank you so much, appreciate it!Darcy

Wow, yeah $1000 is way too much..ugh...  It would be leisure biking.. maybe on trails?  And they would need to be able to pull kids.  I don't know if that makes a difference or not???  That's pretty cool about your boyfriend and finding a way to make some extra cash!

I would look for low end trail bike or hybrid or cross bike. Road bikes will cost more and most people have hard time (at first) with saddle and bars unless use to it. I prefer trail over hybrid as hybrids kinda just have mix of trail and road but they have improved since I was bike shopping. In DC there is a big market for used bikes and you can find great deals on them. Most people don't want a nice bike for commuting as it will get stolen so all are looking for ok bikes ~$200 or less, that is how my boyfriend makes $$.I will try to send you some links to some good lower cost hybrid or crosses off line.judyFrom: Darcy Ledman <exercise.junkie@...> Sent: Thu, February 4, 2010 9:46:44 AMSubject: Re: / Judy (bike info needed please!)

Thank you tons Judy, I appreciate it.  Yeah, it sounds like I surely don't need a 'road bike'!DarcyOn Thu, Feb 4, 2010 at 9:07 AM, Judy S <k9sports4gsps@...> wrote:

This is so cool! I've been away from the computer for a couple of days, but I see some good advice in this thread. I think I'd only add a couple of things here. First, you want to try the bikes out. Go to a good bike shop and ask them if you can ride some around the block. See how they feel. A bike shop is also great because they often offer free adjustments, etc.

My other piece of advice is to stay away from department store bikes. If you get a cheaply made bike, it can really take the fun out of riding. They just don't ride right, and you can't get the components to stay adjusted, etc.

I love bikes so much, but the reason I do is that I've got some good bikes. They take me where I want to go.On Thu, Feb 4, 2010 at 6:10 AM, Darcy Ledman <exercise.junkie@...> wrote:
