That's what they do here in Swansea, however I get the impression

it's unusual, which has just reminded me, Isobel that I said I'd

send you a copy of Tom's statement. Bit busy now but I'll just type

out the relevant bit on here in case it helps someone else.

Thanks Sara, did you have a battle with the LEA when you said you wanted to home school? Also how much do the government give for a special needs childs education?

He is at a special needs school. So if i say i want to homeschool him i get it and if i want ABA i don't - my Godness what are these people like - they put every type of obstical in the way of trying to make our children independant adults one day - blithering idiots! So anyone know how much education will fund for "homeschooling"?

Is the school he goes to special? If so then HS is cheaper and you might be able to swing it, if he in manistream then you are likely to have about as much chance as getting 25 hours per week DP.

Just thinking out loud (sorry sleep deprived) they have funded ABA in school for the reception year and we have it ongoing in school until April, although i wouldn't call it ABA as she is only allowed to have approx 5 hours a week one to one of pure ABA, the rest of the time it is plan and simple shadowing!

No, no battle. I moved here from Plymouth where they were EVIL and

fought tooth and nail not to help you. when I got here and told them

I was home-schooling they asked me if I wanted the money!

They were already doing that with several families. They don't pay

for home programmes, they release the funds (which are less than the

cost of a full-time home programme usually) and you have to be

careful (as an LEA that is) how you word that on the statement or

you'll end up being liable for the entire programme.

Will type out that bit of Tom's statement later so people can show

their LEA's, no time now.

The funding is banded, so they have to assess the kid and say what

band they are and then release the equivalent funds (they refund

receipts up to the equivalent amount - they don't hand us the

money). The lowest band - or highest funding is £18,000 and

something.

Thanks Sara, is there anywhere i can find info regarding the band rates, just wondering if that info might be on internet somewhere? So do you have to invoice them for tutors/supervisors/rescources each month? They must give you guidence on the amount you can spend etc..

Also, I can't find Tom's statement, can only find amended bits and

I think that's a Wales thing , its not national, most home edders get nothing at all. Poole will fund Son Rose for £11K per year coz its chepaer than special school but they'll go to tribunal to stop ABA funding. Is there a local support group you can ask?

The Home ed list is brill and they know all sorts of ways to try

Hiya

I have done ABA with my son since he was 4 years old for approx 20 hours a week.

He only did 2 x 1 hour sessions a week at a mainstream nursery.

When he started school, aged 5, he went to a Special School and spent the first

year only 9 to 12pm. Now he does 9 to 1.15pm. We have been doing ABA/VB (now

just starting RDI)for 2 hours in the afternoons. School were not happy about it

probably as I was the first parent to do it in my area. They have been ok since

it has been legally arranged as Flexi-Schooling.

Email me off list if you like.

hi michelle I get NO help for funding the aba and this is a catastrophe! my

council wont pay for anything they are the meanest borough in the country but

we have the lowest council tax! they will only give funding pt or ft with a

fight the younger the better i.e. aged 2,5 or 3 yrs

I was bulldozed into this school 3 years ago and now the head of childrens

service gets my ear ache all the time ,,,most councils are more helpful than

mine! We will see what happens, its quite cheap to get student volunteers from

universities who have music art or psychology degrees ..by law the council

only offer one hour of tutoring for free per week,so to take yr child out of

school full time comes down to you financially, but you have a duty of care to

prove you are giving a resonable education... to the education dept.etc., its

not easy for any of us!!some councils are much easier ours is not! hope this

gives insite!!Isobel

I was bulldozed into this school 3 years ago and now the head of childrens

service gets my ear ache all the time ,,,most councils are more helpful than

mine! We will see what happens, its quite cheap to get student volunteers from

universities who have music art or psychology degrees ..by law the council

only offer one hour of tutoring for free per week,so to take yr child out of

school full time comes down to you financially, but you have a duty of care to

prove you are giving a resonable education... to the education dept.etc., its

not easy for any of us!!some councils are much easier ours is not! hope this

gives insite!!Isobel

You see how it annoys me that teeach schools wont open up to rdi aba vb and

sonrise we are in a complete epidemic here and our children desperatley need any

other intervention but teeach

It really make me very annoyed ,sorry to go on but these teeach schools are slow

slow slow they think our children will improve through speech therapy and ot

and intensive integration dont they realise our children need this daily not

weekly or monthly! It makes me sick [sorry to rant ]but see how it took your

school sometime to get the idea of shadowing ... this education system is not

set up for children with developmental delays and autism and something needs to

change! Its so obvious teeach has a low expextancy and they expect all children

to go into residential care at pubity! Its utter nonsence!!

and if i want ABA i don't - my Godness what are these people like - they put

every type of obstical in the way of trying to make our children independant

adults one day - blithering idiots! So anyone know how much education will fund

for " homeschooling " ?
