Okay, Monday was the fit test. I already blogged briefly about that. Last night was Plyometric Cardio Circuit. Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I previewed it a couple of days ago and I was pretty intimidated when I saw the backgrounders dropping like flies! I kept thinking, “Who is this 45 year old mother of 5 kidding? I actually think I can do this???†My two daughters both did this dvd earlier in the day and kept asking them if they were sure I could do. They assured me I could. Well, they were right. I did it. I think what helped was that I had been doing Jillian s’ Banish the Fat, Boost the Metabolism lately and it’s actually very similar in the types of drills, just not as intense, so at least I was somewhat prepared. It’s about 40 minutes long. It starts out with some pretty easy jogging in place and moves on to jumping jacks, Heismans, 123-123 (like a moving Heisman with a few small steps), butt kicks, high knees, and mummy kicks. Then you do the circuit again, but this time it’s not a warm-up, it’s faster. You do this circuit 2 more times, increasing speed & intensity every time. Water break. The water break was followed by a 7 minute stretch. The second circuit was a little harder, but doable. It included suicides, power squats, mountain climbers, and slalom ski jumps. You do this circuit 3 more times with 30 second water breaks in between them. After the 2nd rep of these the power squats got pretty tough to do, but the rest seemed okay. The third circuit is the one that got me! I thought I was doing pretty good until I got to this. The basketball drills weren’t too bad, even considering that I haven’t played basketball in about 35 years! The pushups weren’t even that bad (have been doing some of those with Jari Love). However, those ski abs did me in! Who ever came up with those things should be tortured! They look so innocent. But oh my! My thighs were literally shaking while doing them. A number of the backgrounders were dropping to the ground for a rest or getting up and taking an unscheduled water break during this circuit. These things were nasty! Shaun T. finished us up with a little boxing/punching for maybe 5 minutes. This was right up my alley since I’ve been doing Turbo Jam for the last year. It was a nice cardio cool-down compared to what we had been doing. Three minute stretch after that. He kept saying to check our heart rate during the whole workout to make sure we were staying safe. Every time I looked at my HRM, I was slightly over my target range, right about 155 or so every time which would be about 90% or so for me. When I logged in my workout afterwards, my maximum heart rate for the workout was 192! That’s 110% of what’s supposed to be my max! When did I hit that???? Well, I survived. One of my sparkfriends asked if I only survived or if I kicked butt. Hmmm. I don’t know how to answer that. I guess I kicked butt, because although I’m complaining about the ski abs, I completed it and it felt soooo good! My legs were shaking, but there was such a sense of accomplishment. And I still had energy left to do 45 minutes on the elliptical afterwards. I’m coming back for more. I’m pushing play again tonight!
