Guest guest
Hi Everyone, Today was my sleep in and stretch day - so all I did was an episode of Classical Stretch from the 2007 TV series. I really, really must get the 2009 series (I love the episodes i did on PBS!) , her new core workout and her new back pain workout once it is released. Here's my check in from last week, in spite of having the stomach virus strike our home I managed to workout every day and so far, so good on NOT catching it. Note: that some days I added on additional stretching, but I don't remember exactly what I did or when. Sunday - Hi Def Sculpt (FIRM Virgin w/ Annie Lee) Monday - Ultimate Calorie Blaster w. Huckabee from TransFIRMer (BSS4) series Tuesday - Janis Saffel/ Cole Balanced Blend (t'ai chi, kickboxing), and Janis Saffel's Dynamic Stretch Wed - Complete Aerobic Weight Training with from the "sculpting stick" (BSS2) series. Thurs - 2 of Huckabee's Power Fit Harmony Cardio workouts and one of her Core workouts. Friday - 50 min of cardio (Bike & TM), 10 min of Pilates Sat - 25 min of Classical Stretch Ok, so my rotation quandry is that I'm seeing results with my FIRMs and I am enjoying them, but, I'm also noticing that my back is getting really tight again. I know part of it may be from "life"but I really don't want to deal with my back getting all cranky again, so I'm not sure if I should continue this rotation or switch to something else. Maybe now is not the best time to do it since I'm sort of in spring cleaning mode at home and that is a back stressor for me, too. Part of me is thinking that I can continue the rotation in a modified form by maybe choosing shorter FIRM workouts - the 60 min ones seem to be most problemmatic and I do have plenty of the shorter "Pink" workouts that I can sub in. And, doing the "Pink" ones would knock off my virgin list by quite a bit. Also thinking I can do some of the lower body stuff w/out weights to reduce stress/compression on my back. Another option is to scrap it for now and do the new Huckabee workouts in a rotation. Most of those are virgins for me now, too! put together a nice rotation doing 2 of her 20 minute workouts a day - for a total of 40 minutes, and I would add on an additonal 20 minutes for 60 minutes a day. If I go w/ I can maybe go back to Couch to 5K , since the running is only around 20 minutes 3X per week that I can add on to 's routines. So, a lot to think about this weekend! Does anyone know if working with bands would reduce stress/compression on the back? I am guessing it would - I knw there is a thread on VF that reports how working w/ the band really engages the core, so maybe that would be a good option for me to continue to strengthen my core and hopefully relieve some of the stress on my back. Ugh! I guess I'll see what the spirit moves me to do tomorrow - which, if I go w/ FIRM is scheduled to be Total Sculpt plus Abs with Jen Carman, but I'm thinking I may substitute Allie's "Pink" workout (Total Body Toner) since it s only 40 minutes. A big problem (for me) with the longer FIRMs is that I run out of time for stretching and that seems to be a big factor in how my back responds to things. So, maybe doing this rotation w/ shorter FIRM workouts to allow more time for stretching may be the answer? Take care!Donna
Guest guest
You may be on to something with that last bit, Donna (I tried snipping down to that but Outlook Express will not comply). Since you're seeing results from the FIRM workouts, going with the shorter ones, but more stretching, might do what you want for both your back & the rest of your body? Guest guest
Hi , I couldn't snip either but, yes, I think the longer FIRMs are just too much for me right now and doing ones that are 40-45 minutes allows for 15+ minutes of stretching every day which should help. If it doesn't I think I will seek out either band/tubing workouts (or sub bands/tubing for weights), or go w/ body weight exercises. It sure is frustrating to not be able to do what I want, but I guess I just have to keep moving and trying until I find the right mix for me.
