Guest guest
Good job, Jen! A 5K takes about 30 minutes at a briskish pace, so you're on your way!
Guest guest
I'm aiming to do it in a hour because I don't want to walk too fast and hurt my ankle more. So far the ankle is doing pretty good but it does hurt more when I try to pick up the pace. A 30 minute 5K is pretty fast. When I was walking before it would have taken me an hour to finish it.How is your shoulder doing? Guest guest
Jen, you're right I have running on my mind, and it takes me around 30 minutes to run a 5K. Walking takes me more like 50 minutes. And you know what, when I did the Fitness Walk for the Shamrock Run this year it wasn't really a race for me, it was more about walking the route with 2 friends and getting caught up in the excitement. You are going to have a BLAST! and there's no need to hurry. I look at it is, if I finish I'm a success, and I won't be in first place but I won't come in last either. Be good to that ankle now, y'hear? Ice every night! Hugs,
Guest guest
Good job, Jen. As pointed out - go as slow as you need to - with your ankle issues that is sensible! My ankle only hurt a bit. For the rest of this week I'm only going to concentrate on the length of my walk instead of the speed. I'm trying to get ready for the 5K walk on Saturday. Guest guest
Be sure to rest your ankle the day before the 5K too. That way it isn't starting out hurting. Also remember, a 5K is only 3.1 miles. As long as you can go that far, it doesn't matter how long it takes. So when you are walking on the treadmill for your training, just aim for mileage, not speed or even time, and do what it takes to get that far without hurting (meaning take rest breaks and stretch, if necessary).
