Guest guest
I send this to my friends, who are having a hard time putting down cancer sticks. I know it is not the easiest thing to do. It's (for some very unfortunate ones, next to impossible). Concentrating poisons to enter your system through your lungs, just like crack cocaine, is highly addictive. The buzz is stronger, more immediate, and hits the pleasure center of your brain, before you even blow the smoke out...right? Part of what makes having Hep C unbearable is the social stigma, or attitude, of the general public. You know..... ignorant people that don't even want to sit by you. You can sense they are uncomfortable when you get near them... I mean.. it couldn't just be ME...COULD IT???? hahaha..smoking went the other way, it was cool, glamorous, very well accepted,etc... It's changing, but smoking has been accepted probably since we found a way to make fire! LOL Financially, I have heard cartons of cigs go for about thirty dollars at the dealers, and if you use a vending machine, it's $5.00 a pack. Are there 10 paks to a carton???SHHHEEEEIIIIIT! I heard at the drug store they are going up another dollar a pak!! I also heard you kinda' have to go somewhere out of site and by yourselves to get the tar & nicotine rush, because the habit is harmful to others. WOW!! It almost sounds as if our government has a Gestapo type approach to this, and you could end up in the Big House for smoking!! Scary!! I feel I have a modicum of understanding about addictions, and how our minds work to justify our addictions. Like....".well I started before they knew it was bad", Not your fault, at all!!! Seriously it's not! Thats part of what makes it so sinister, so much like something from the Devil/Lucifer/ Beelzabub himself! It's easyto justify when your an addict! If you didn't justify, you probably wouldn't be addited. For me...Hey..they used to put coke in Coca-Cola, dentist's used it, BEN FRANKLIN used it!! There is no GOOD justification in smoking. My monkee was booze and toot, as well as other things. Oh! and smoking... I forgot!! I used to smoke all the time!! Non filter Camels, or Pall Malls (pronounced pell mell, by the way...). You know..the Dean biker type dude with a pak rolled in his sleeve... and you would just walk up to ANYONE, and say, Gotta' Light? Say it now and you'll probably get one of those tiny key ring flashlights. hahaha I pray you will have the faith and strength for YOU to be Master of your Being. Again..sorry so long. I hope I haven't offended anyone, if I have, please tell me. Sincerely Del We Have Been Providing Excellent Quit Smoking Help, Supportand Information on the Internet Since 1989. Photographs of Normal & Diseased Lungs Please Note: These photos are not for the squeamish! This page may take half a minute to load but it's worth the wait. These photographs are courtesy of Frederic W. Grannis Jr. M.DThanks for allowing them to be used to help people see the long term effects of smoking. The chest and abdominal cavities are opened here at autopsy. The lungs in the chest have a normal pink aerated appearance with minimal anthracotic pigmentation, because this 80 year old male never smoked and never allowed smoking in his workplace. The mediastinum contains mostly fat. The pericardial sac around the heart has not been opened. The diaphragmatic domes extend upward to the level of the 6th ribs. A Normal Lung A Lung With Emphysema Arising centrally in this lung and spreading extensively is a small cell anaplastic (oat cell) carcinoma. The cut surface of this tumor has a soft, lobulated, white to tan appearance. The tumor seen here has caused obstruction of the main bronchus to left lung so that the distal lung is collapsed. Oat cell carcinomas are very aggressive and often metastasize widely before the primary tumor mass in the lung reaches a large size. Emphysema, representating a late 20th century version of "The Masque of the Red Death" in Edgar Poe's short story, is shown here. Note the loss of lung parenchyma with irregular holes. It should be remembered that deaths from emphysema, as well as lung cancer, have increased greatly over the past few decades because of smoking. This is a larger squamous cell carcinoma in which a portion of the tumor demonstrates central cavitation, probably because the tumor outgrew its blood supply.Squamous cell carcinomas are one of the more common primary malignancies of lung and are most often seen in smokers.
