Guest guest
hi my 10 year old son was diagnosed in june with aspergers , it took me 4 years to get a diagnosis . i am finally getting help and trying to get a statement now however after my battle it seems they are changing the criteria for statements . i want one in place for when he gets to secondary school , his teacher this year has realised she can't cope with him and 4 others like him in the class so they have got more help starting when he goes back , i am getting help at home too from a team who work with the educational psychologists . he is a very bright boy but his social skills are where he is lacking and him and his older brother (14) fight alot , his older brother feels i give in too much but sometimes things can escalate and is it worth fighting over him wanting to bring loads of toys in the car ? i do feel my older son misses out , i am divorced from their dad , i had to leave him 8 years ago he was abusive and controlling and liked things done a certain way and would get very nasty if they weren't done ,now we have a diagnosis for my son he thinks maybe he has aspergers too !! i tend to agree but he is sorting himself out i have enough on my plate lol . also my family struggle with my son when he 'kicks off' so to speak and just think he is being naughty , they want me to tell them how to handle him but it is difficult to explain as no 2 situations are the same . i feel very alone in all of this and have been interested to read the posts from american users of this group but i just wonder if anyone is from the uk ? alli
Guest guest
Hi Ali, I am from north west uk. I to have two sons on the autistic spectrum with Aspergers. They were diagnosed aged 13 years. one is now 20 and the other is 18 years old. I also have three other children and being divorced and re married I would tend to agree that this condition is inherited. I managed to get statements for two of my five children. One managed at school without. Which is your local borough? You may have to take your case to the SENDIST tribunal to force your LEA to provide a statement. In the meantime keep all letters and reports etc you will need them in the future. Best Wishes jess From: allison govan <alli2ells@...>Subject: anyone in the uk ?Autism and Aspergers Treatment Date: Monday, 3 January, 2011, 10:34 hi my 10 year old son was diagnosed in june with aspergers , it took me 4 years to get a diagnosis . i am finally getting help and trying to get a statement now however after my battle it seems they are changing the criteria for statements . i want one in place for when he gets to secondary school , his teacher this year has realised she can't cope with him and 4 others like him in the class so they have got more help starting when he goes back , i am getting help at home too from a team who work with the educational psychologists . he is a very bright boy but his social skills are where he is lacking and him and his older brother (14) fight alot , his older brother feels i give in too much but sometimes things can escalate and is it worth fighting over him wanting to bring loads of toys in the car ? i do feel my older son misses out , i am divorced from their dad , i had to leave him 8 years ago he was abusive and controlling and liked things done a certain way and would get very nasty if they weren't done ,now we have a diagnosis for my son he thinks maybe he has aspergers too !! i tend to agree but he is sorting himself out i have enough on my plate lol . also my family struggle with my son when he 'kicks off' so to speak and just think he is being naughty , they want me to tell them how to handle him but it is difficult to explain as no 2 situations are the same . i feel very alone in all of this and have been interested to read the posts from american users of this group but i just wonder if anyone is from the uk ? alli
