Sounds like you're using the Norfolk sets (our kiddo does the best w/ it but

every child is different). The soft set is by medtronic. I found that the

needle to be a bit bigger b/c it delivers a soft " thread " . Some parents w/ lean

kids prefer it.

What product are you using?

Another consideration is that the product concentration can have a significant

effect as well. Some kids get welts from thicker solutions or if the rate is too

fast. We use a 10 percent conc. product with 3 sites at 8cc per hour (50 ml

total) and get a flesh colored bump which disappears after 2 hrs. Her belly is

more sensitive so we've been rotating to the tricep and top of the tush (just

below the back so she can still sit).

There are a lot of moms that do sq here and can help you to brainstorm.

Soft set needles

Trevor's have having alot trouble with pain, swelling and itching during

and after sub q. He's pre medicated with motrin and atarax. He's very

thin, his dose is 30 mg, he uses 6mm needles over four sites. The

doctor wants us to use soft set needles. The pharmacy hasn't heard of

them. Is anyone familiar with this type of needle? The needles we use

now look like thumbtacks. They sit in a red " cup " . The pharmacy thought

they were soft set.
