The soft set is by medtronic. I found that the needle to be a bit bigger b/c it delivers a soft " thread " . Some parents w/ lean kids prefer it. What product are you using? Another consideration is that the product concentration can have a significant effect as well. Some kids get welts from thicker solutions or if the rate is too fast. We use a 10 percent conc. product with 3 sites at 8cc per hour (50 ml total) and get a flesh colored bump which disappears after 2 hrs. Her belly is more sensitive so we've been rotating to the tricep and top of the tush (just below the back so she can still sit). There are a lot of moms that do sq here and can help you to brainstorm. He's pre medicated with motrin and atarax. He's very thin, his dose is 30 mg, he uses 6mm needles over four sites. The doctor wants us to use soft set needles. The pharmacy hasn't heard of them. Is anyone familiar with this type of needle? The needles we use now look like thumbtacks. They sit in a red " cup " .
