Guest guest
I posted this on the Homeschoo_SpecialNeedsKids group too, so I'm sorry if some are on there and get it twice. I don't think I've introduced myself yet. I've only been on the group for a month or so. Dh and I have 4 children (11, 9, 3, and 2) and we're a homeschooling family. My 11 year old is the one I suspect of AS. I have really only suspected it for the past 6-8 months. I want to get him evaluated, but haven't had a chance. I've been dealing with my meetings for my sister to get the NOW waiver and also we traveled to China the end of Dec./early Jan. to adopt our 4th child (second adopted). I've been doing lots of reading and these are some things I see: (guess I'd just like some input on if I'm on the right track). I'm using my notes from The Complete Guide to AS (Atwood). limited ability to have a reciprocal conversation intense interest in particular subject (war) clumsiness of gait and coordination/balance hypotonic (I noticed someone mentioned this recently--I'd love to hear more!) sensitive to textures/touch/sound (only slightly sound) anxious if routines ar changed or he cannot solve a problem (didn't realize years ago I was doing the right thing writing our our errands!) dexterity motor tics (an eye tic is why I pulled him from school in the first place to homeschool) vocal tics (makes gutteral noises which I learned could be a pleasant sensation...) depressed and negative (self-criticism when it comes to schoolwork even though he is VERY bright--scored 99th percentile on Cat5 last year) difficulty admitting being wrong and notorious for arguing greater allegiance to honesty and truth than to the thoughts and feelings of others (tactless) aversion to being interrupted but always interrupting or talking over others compulsion for completion keen at pointing out another person's mistakes (often sounding critical although probably meant to encourage perfection and just enlighten) has had odc tendencies in the past (purell fiend!) irrelevant comments loud sometimes high pitched speech, often teacher like and like a script and doesn't want to stop until the script is done Wow! I am so sorry for going on. I've never written it out before. What an eyeful. Thanks for bearing with me and letting me see it... I mean I read the book and underlined and knew it, but I haven't seen it listed out. I'm more sure now than before. Wow. Thanks. BTW, we are doing OT for some of this. I recently started doing more at home now that we are settled from our latest addition. I have a feeling I'll be posting more!
