Guest guest
Hi all.. Just thought I 'd let you know that it was not his appendix, thank goodness. His abd CT we did was normal, and he's improving. He still was unable to fly yesterday and will now hopefully be able to fly next Thurs with me and my youngest, Max. However, his wbc is now back to 2.6 and his ANC is only 800, so for now we have to avoid big crowds, not around anyone that is sick, etc and we will re-check his counts next wed. If his ANC is still at or under 1000 he will have to wear a mask on the plane. I just don't get this kid. After the new year we are also going to get hematology involved again and maybe do a bone marrow biopsy, since now his platelets are also low, since his ped is wonder if he has some bone marrow failure going on. He's on Antibiotics (he has a whopping sinus infection too) and thinks his rise in white count and neutrophils was related to how much pain he was abd that they all went periphery? Does that make sense? How everyone's holiday is going better than mine!! I have question I want to field to you all so I hope you guys don't mind. My husband is supposed to take my 2 older children ALex and MAri (alex has hypo gamm etc) to New Mexico tomorrow to see the his parents and then on the 3rd of Jan I will take the baby and join them. start to complain of headache yesterday along with getting some cold symptoms, and then this am was doubled over in stomach pain at our docs office. We go to IVIG, decide to give him his pre-meds IV along with adding hydro cortisone too since I wanted to lessen the chance of reaction with him not feeling well. We chcek his CBC every time because he's always low with his wbc usually 2.0-3.5 and his ANC between 900-1500. SO todays labs are as follows wbc 9.7 ANC 8180 Neutrophils 85% Lymphocytes 7% Monocytes 7% hgb 12 Platelets 170 I'm concerned that there is something REALLY not right here and he should not fly tomorrow. If his stomach pain is not reolved by tomorrow then he'll stay home and get an Ultrasound to rule out his appendix. Am I right to think this is something bacterial and potentially serious? His counts haven't been this high in YEARS. If anyone can talk me down or suggest what else I should ask that would be great. The Ped will call us right away in am, and her opinion is unless he is 100%+ he needs to sstay home. Thanks ALL!! Missy B Mom to 10, hypogamm, B cell issues, Antibody deficiency etc UPDATE.. This didn't send last night like I wanted it too, but I'm still interested in anyones ideas. was up twice with stomach pains last night and is still complaining today of it, but is drinking slighlty more. To much disapproval from my some of my family I'm keeping him home and not letting him fly today. I'm still waiting for the ped to call back to see if he needs an Ultrasound or a CT or what. THANKS in ADVANCE. Nothing is ever dull with our kids is it?????? --------------------------------- Never miss a thing. Make your homepage. Guest guest
I wanted to respond and tell you we are praying for you. There is so much about this disease that is confusing and scary. I think you did the right thing. You have to be your child's advocate and so many times I have seen our family get upset about decisions we have made. When I look back I realize that they were considering not our child's health, but what THEY wanted at the time. Stick to your guns Mom. It's OK to be a bad guy to keep your child out of the hospital! PS-glad it's not appendicitis! @...: m_boggio@...: Fri, 28 Dec 2007 07:11:36 -0800Subject: Re: High WBC issues Help! Guest guest
Actually, we 've had the same thing happen to us, once.? I brought my son in for severe (and I mean screaming at the top of his lungs pain) in his feet and hands.? I had no idea what it could be, but he had just had open heart surgery 3 weeks earlier so felt I should have him looked at (ER only place open).? He actually improved dramatically in the triage area (only nurse saw his pain at it's worse - then it disappeared).? But, since we were already there, they wanted a cbc and a quick check over of him.? We were all about to be discharged when his CBC came back with a WBC of 23!? I was freaked out!? But his segs and bands all looked fine and he was acting fine so I was told that the pain and the stress of the blood draw itself, can elevate the wbc.? It must have been true, because he was fine after that.? LOL Praying for you and your family. www.caringbridge.com/ny/my2angels ________________________________________________________________________ More new features than ever.
