I applied for SSI for my son back in June 2010 . He was denied in October 2010 ,

i filled reconsideration in October and he was just awarded on March 11 2011. My

question is he will be recieving a large backpay amount . I have recieved so

many different answers fron Social Security on what types of things his backpay

can be used for . Has anyone else recieved backpay for your child and if so how

were you able to spend it ? We are in CA.

Thanks

Yes I have a fiend who just not long ago did this very thing, had his

SSI finally approved, and he did receive a nice lump sum check since he

first applied. He wanted it all at once however and they said they would

have to do it in two parts, I think maybe around $10,000 for each part

it depends on how many months went by between when a person applies and

then finally gets it, his was several years..it adds up.

Of course with the federal government having a lot of problems with

money these days this could change but if so there would be news and so

far I don't think it has.

Good luck!
