I have talked about my daughter Marcy in my last post. She is 27, , autistic and

has gone from practically no language to now speaking at autism and special need

conferences. She is an incredible artist and has had art in Hollywood, L.A., the

U.N. Plaza, Princeton, galleries in Washington State and had art in Oregon and

in art shows in N.Y. She draws mainly animals and everyone is surprised at how

expressive she makes the eyes. She can't draw people, and when she tried to draw

a self-portrait in her art class the eyes were looking away. Normally when

people draw a self-portrait the eyes are looking back at them towards them. Her

teacher in over 20 years of teaching had never seen that before. If you would

like to see her art just check it out at her website. It is

www.crittersonthings.com

She has over 300 images. She never drew as a child, we just couldn't get her to

color or do anything. However when she was 12 her school had a schoolwide

project where all the students had to draw their favorite pet or animal. She

drew her pet macaw, Tiny. I got a call from the school and they told me they

couldn't believe that a 12 yr. old could draw like she did. We started giving

her lessons after that. We found a teacher who gave private lessons and would

work with someone on the spectrum.

Hope you enjoy her art. Her story is also on the site.

She surprises everyone when they learn she is autistic. I know from experience

just how incredible these kids are and what they really are capable of.
