Guest guest
My son is not dx yet. He is 3yr old and I have fought my way to specialists such as allergist, GI specialists as well as others. He does have dx like asthma, allergies, IgG deficiency (determined by lab tests, though no doc has ever commented on severity/ treatment etc), eosinophiic gastroenteritis etc. We have an appt at the Cleveland Clinic in March but I am not even sure we're going to the right people, b/c it's on my request, not a doc referral. My question today is: my son has been running a fever for 9days. The first two days he had a runny nose and cough (that had lingered forhte past 2weeks, so those were the last two days of that episode). For the next seven days, no symptoms except LOW GRADE fever (100.4-100.9). Yesterday it his 101. It is usually 99 during the day and then after his nap 4pm-bedtime is when we see it go up to 101. After no other symptoms, he came down with a stuffy nose today. I took him to the ped on Friday after 6days of low grade fever and no symptoms. They told me to bring him in. THey told me it was a virus and to call them on Monday. If the fever was stll there, it was " too long to have a fever, even if low grade. " I called today (tues) and THAT doc is out of town. Another doc said " let's monitor him for two more days. Call me on Thrusday and if his temp has gone above 100.0, then we'll come up with another game plan. " I am trying to tap your brain as to what might cause a lingering low grade fever for this long. Am I waiting to long? Are there tests they could be running right now while he's sick to determine cause? I will be willing to demand certain tests and action but I don't know WHAT to demand. Or even, if I should. All they seem to care about is if he's eating and drinking. He does, he's very good about that when sick. Is that all that matters? he's not acting sick. he never does. that throws them off too. He is different though. he rarely ever runs a fever (as an infant he caught a staph infection that settled in his knee turning into osteomylitis bone infection and his fever NEVER went above 99). He has sensory issues, so he tends to get hyper rather than lethargic etc. Please let meknow your htoughts on this situation and how you would handle it given that he doesn't have a dx, is eating drinking, has difficulty fighting things off, is acting fine and the docs seemto be pushing it off (until it goes away on it's own or until it turns into something big). thank you, Kim
