Guest guest
Thank you so much for the replies. I wanted to share an update. The 4 yr old boy that I care for had some problems in school last week and so the mom was emailing me emails from the boy's teacher and asking if he behaved the same way at my house. I emailed her back different things that he did at my house and asked her if she had put anymore thought into taking the boy to be retested. She never emailed me back but said she thought the child may be just acting out because of their home situation. I had pretty much given up any hope. Finally the mom said her friend, who has a son with aspergers, visited her house one evening and said that she saw a lot of things in the boy that were similar to her asperger's son so therefore she was going to get on the ball and get him retested. A few days went by and yesterday the mom emails me from work to tell me that she called the University where he son was tested back in June of 2009 and the gal that answered the phone looked through his records, the boy was diagnosed on the spectrum nearly 2 years ago!! I just couldn't believe it! How can a child be diagnosed and she not know? She said that she must have been 'blind to it' and she said couldn't believe her father-in-law 'missed it'. Is that even possible to be diagnosed and she wouldn't know? She said that he was diagnosed with Disruptive Behavior Disorder and that he was placed on the spectrum. This is a far cry from him being a little delayed because of hearing loss and a 'normal' child like she said when I asked her about the testing before. > " Apparently she had him tested and the doctors said he was slightly delayed > because he had an earlier hearing problem because of excess fluid in his > ears which was fixed with surgery.
