Guest guest Posted May 27, 2010 Report Share Posted May 27, 2010 I think how inter-groups relate within autism is a big issue. On many loops, the division exists over the herb/chelation/GDFC groups. With the fallout mentioned. I've participated myself in those groups & felt attacked. And I think anyone would be proud and delighted to have my daughter with autism for their child. She is and is going to do so many regular things. And for me, it's not about family members. There is also divisions over income & class differences, so that minorities, single parents, low income, and rural children can't get equal access to proper diagnosis, therapies, etc etc. I know someone who was successful at going all the way to Congress to get insurance coverage for his non-verbal daughter's ABA needs (and she is nonverbal, though they do the diet). And who was hosted by Dan Marino, at his Center for autism treatment, for testing her. And he says that the interdynamics in the autism community represent the worst of society.
