Guest guest
Sometimes sucking on an ice cube can deaden the taste buds.or a popsicle... then try taking the pill with a cold mouth :-) Not sure if this helps. God bless you today. May He make you a blessing to others! Pattie
Guest guest
Mark actually throws this med up, it's that bad. Have you tasted it? It's horrible. I would ask them to switch to a different cephlasporin, like omnicef. Unless it's the only atb that works for your kids, it's just not worth it. , mom to Mark, 6, CVID > > what do you guys do, when you have a pill, in our case, its ceftin, > that melts easily and your kids cant stand it? my 12 yr old needs it, > and she's gotten to where if I force her to take it, she spends hours > after yelling and complaining about the awful taste in her mouth,a dn > that the taste keeps coming up. Guest guest
I would agree to switch, also some generics are worse than the name brands due to be CHEAP so maybe trying a different manufacturer. Guest guest
---Olivia is only allergic to sulfas,so we might be able to switch hers.......Brennans allergic to sulfas and pcns, so he's a little bit harder to mess with his meds. I DID eat it once, when my other daughter was taking it......in an effort to get her to take it, I crushed it and put it in applesauce, then to prove it wasnt so bad, I ate a BIG bite of it. OMG, it tasted like BLEACH. valarie In , " rfrench496 " <bluemtnfarm@...> wrote: > > Mark actually throws this med up, it's that bad. Have you tasted it? > It's horrible. Guest guest
Mark's allergic to sulfa, too. He does great with Omnicef, so I would suggest it if it were me. Actually, I do suggest it in place of Ceftin! , mom to Mark, 6, CVID > > > > > > what do you guys do, when you have a pill, in our case, its ceftin, > > > that melts easily and your kids cant stand it? my 12 yr old needs it, > > > and she's gotten to where if I force her to take it, she spends hours > > > after yelling and complaining about the awful taste in her mouth,a dn > > > that the taste keeps coming up. Guest guest
I wish I could help out here, but my little guy still takes liquids. He can't swollen pills and has a hard time with a lot of liquids b/c of his gag reflux. He will throw them up a lot of times (ESPECIALLY anything chalky or gritty!) Maybe changing would be best. Good luck! melting pills what do you guys do, when you have a pill, in our case, its ceftin, that melts easily and your kids cant stand it? my 12 yr old needs it, and she's gotten to where if I force her to take it, she spends hours after yelling and complaining about the awful taste in her mouth,a dn that the taste keeps coming up. Brushing teeth, mouthwash, drinking something, we've tried all that and nothing seems to help. My 6 yrold is on it as well, and he flat out wont open his mouth for it any more........ he says its too " furry " (Im guessing this is relating to the melting?). I know it does taste bad........any tips? valarie
Guest guest
from Dale, Mom to Katy, CVID, grown and married pills that taste bad. I don't know what size they are. But, my Dad couldn't handle the taste of prednisone so I asked the pharmacist to provide me with gelatin capsules to put them in. It worked beautifully. He had to take prednisone several times a day and I would just pop it inside a capsule and he would take it without a problem. You need a compounding pharmacy (one that prepares their own medications). But most of them will sell you the capsules if you explain what you need it for. I've found cola is the best flavoring to get rid of tastes. Don't know why. But it works for me. Also there's a ginger cookie that I use to get rid of after tastes. Hope that helps. Guest guest
I thought of that Dale, but I think if I remember Ceftin is also HUGE! Guest guest
You can also look at the health food stores. Some of them have those clear capsules that you can put the pill inside and then the can swallow it. The health food stores have them for people to put the strange supplements in them. Its an idea to try even if you have to crush it and then fit it in the capsule. Good Luck
