Guest guest
Deb, Are you sure there are no ear issues coming into play? Ear and speech are closely correlated- Jaelene On 1/6/11 12:07 PM, " Deb Discenza " <ddiscenza@...> wrote: Good Afternoon, I am the mother to a little girl born prematurely, now 7 years old. Last year around this time, my daughter was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome. Our therapies over the last year have been OT, hippotherapy, nutrition (she is on a compounded multi-vitamin and a specialty fish oil), sensory play through My Gym and a social skills group. Over last summer, we had her in a feeding camp to help jumpstart her extremely limited diet and that really helped things move forward. In the last few months, I have noticed my daughter's speech regressing in a very specific way - instead of " th " she is uses " z " so that " the " sounds like " zee. " When I correct her she can correct it for that instance but regresses back to the other way automatically. She doesn't seem to realize she is even doing this. Other than that she is a super clear speaker. We also noticed that her feeding skills that had improved also regressed which I imagine is not a shock considering the speech scenario. Anyone experienced this? We stopped OT for sensory due to differences with the therapist's approach and need to pick it up again along with the feeding skills. I have to assume this is sensory based again? She does use an Ark Grabber and chewlery to get input when needed. Thanks! And please feel free to e-mail me directly if you like. Guest guest
Jaelene, Thank you for your post. Hm, indeed, ear and speech issues are closely related. She has had ear infections in the past but none so far this year as far as I can tell. However, you bring up a good point and I am going to see if the school can test her as a starting point first. Thank you! Respectfully, Deb
