Guest guest
Welcome to the wonderful world of homeschooling! Homeschooling is just such a great way for asperger's teens to get time to rest, eat, fresh air. Extra 1:1 attention, guidance. . . they can strongly develop their interests. Here is a site which lists what the requirements are. I know a lot of people in California use an " umbrella " school; it can be quite restrictive about what you do on your own. . . On the other hand, it's a state with lots of " unschoolers " ; and while that was our philosophy, attending a camp hosted by one of their leaders was a disaster-- I question its healthiness for any kid, but esp for a disabled kid. The nice thing about unschooling is your child can spend more time pursue their interests and strengths, and at their own pace. What we did in a state where we needed to do testing or submit a portfolio was to go over the stuff she couldn't get too well,at least. And document we did it. And spend more time on what she loved. . . I believe a lot of families in California use an " umbrella " school, to get transcripts. http://www.hslda.org/laws/default.asphttp://www.hslda.org/laws/default.asp Rather than open the site for CA, I left it at the map page, so that people could see where to look up for their state. Be sure and find a homeschooling group. Always good advice about getting started, stress reduction, and also they organize so many activities, classes, and field trips for each other. I made great friends among the other mothers over the years. Also, be forewarned, many kids don't want to do much for a few months after leaving public school, they've had! to learn what was the curriculum of the day; and this will pass. Try to start out doing fun stuff together, and sleep a lot. And find some kind of learning activity in something they like to do. One of the great things about homeschooling is you can do learning experiences by utilizing everyday activities-- in the kitchen, on PBS, in your neighborhood, even thru some video games and the like. . .
