Guest guest
Sorry if this is long, but I want to create the entier picture of our 18 month old daughter.... She is 1 of 5 children....all are healthy (so far!). When she was born, she didn't cry like my other kids, but I just thought she was a good baby. She started favouring one side when she was around 2 months...at 3 months started screaming and we thought it to be colic, but I knew colic should not start at 3 months. After a long month of screaming, we noticed her first visible seizure at 4 months and then we finally got doctors attention! We saw a neurologist right away, various EEG's and 2 MRI's, and finally gained control of her seizures when she was 7 months old! She has been seizure free for 11 months now!! However, still very delayed. She is 18 months, not sitting on her own, VERY low tone. She rolls everywhere, but has yet to crawl. Originallty I though Cerebral Palsy due to back arching she did, but I also heard that some babies who were late diagnosed with Austism also arched their backs. I have went back and forth thinking Autism, CP, Autism, CP...not saying it can't be both. Her pediatrician mentioned Autism a few months back due to lack of eye contact and no speech (plus a few other things such as, really only playing with toys with lights, music, and buttons). Of course, at 16 months this was quite young to diagnos, but we have kept our eye on it. Last week I took our little girl to see a Behaviour Specialist with Autism, and she definately " red flagged " her. Here is where I am looking for input.....is it possible for a child to be severely physically delayed as a baby due to Autism? The Behaviour Specialist said it is and that low tone is common. But I have never heard of an child on the spectrum to still not be sitting at 18 months??? I am really confused, and I am looking for other parents input on this. Is there antone out there who's child was physically delayed as well? Her neurologist has pretty much said she is Globally delayed, and left us to deal with it. The seizures have stopped, and they have done a ton of testing, now I am left to fight this on my own. Neurology won't even discuss Autism with me being that she is so young....it is very frustrating. But all her therapists suspect it, as well as her pediatrician. Any advice on Autism as a baby and symptoms would be very much welcomed!
