Guest guest
I see all the information on the shots. Has anyone heard of Asberger's just happening? My son seemed normal until age 5. Laughing, loving, fabulous baby boy. I don't recall him getting any shots and changing, but I do know that his best friend ended up being molested that year ~ that was a big shock for him. He didn't wish to be close to anyone from then on? Has anyone else had this type of expierience?
Guest guest
Aspergers is generally diagnosed after age 4. It's more subtle than Autism. My son is HFA (High Functioning Autism) which is pretty much identical to Asperger's, except he had a slight speech delay (that's how they differentiate the diagnosis). My son didn't get a firm diagnosis until he was 8, although we'd had him evaluated numerous times (we always knew something was off). I don't happen to believe that vaccines have anything to do with autism (among other things, I have twins who were vaccinated at the same time, at 18 months, with the MMR split and after mercury was removed from the shots--one has HFA, the other is neuro-typical). We don't know what causes Autism or Aspergers. We do know that intense therapies and such can have a postitive impact and help as the wiring forms. My son also has ADHD and possibly Tourettes (upcoming appointment for that). If his friend was molested--why would he know about it, unless he was directly affected? I don't think that is something that should be shared with a 5 year old. It's possible that it's an emotional shock. Have you had a full neuro-psych workup done? Guest guest
I can definitely relate to your experience. My son seemed completely normal until he was 5 years old. However, the decline was quite gradual. It is very hard to tell when it started, but I think all the vaccines, over time, along with environmental exposures create a toxic load that his body could no longer cope with and, thus, created toxic overload. I believe that emotions also play a huge role and having a friend with such a trauma can be traumatic for a child who starts doubting if this world is a safe place after all. We are currently doing sequential homeopathy at the Homeopathy Center of Houston (www.homeopathyhouston.com). They clear each insult on the body (physical or emotional)by following your child's timeline and working backwards. That, along with Vision Therapy, have given us many gains for our son with Asperger's. I never believed in homeopathy and thought it was all quackery, but now, I'm much more aware of its power. If you have any questions, please contact me by email, as I don't always check this board. Best of luck, Irene
Guest guest
Okay I guess I failed to mention that both my kids were friends with this sister brother crew and that my son was not molested, but fondeled as a way of Jeff reaching out for help. My son set fire to his curtains and told the fire marshall not me that he was being "bad touched" and so was his friend. Guest guest
This is a little confusing. I'm sure it's hard to talk about. Are you saying that your son was fondled; and afterwards set fire to curtains and told someone else? I can tell you that learning that your child has been sexually abused can be one of the most devastating experiences a mother has to handle. We have PTSD in our family with my daughter, which shows partly as bipolar behavior, from a period when she was not in my custody (I am divorced) and fought like hell for her return, wellbeing, and safety. (People wrote letters of recommendation during this time that it was a crime against nature for her not to be with me, for instance.) When she came back, I didn't know yet. I did know there was horrible abuse and neglect going on, she'd been starved, and that she had a long ways to go to get back to good functioning. Which we devoted ourselves to for months. When I learned she was also sexually abused, I misdirected my anger and rage and hurt onto something not working in the house. . . first. And she said to me, " Mom, if you continue to react like that, I can't tell you the rest of it. " If he has been sexually abused, he will function better if he is in therapy to help process his feelings and recover. And it takes a therapist who knows how to handle a child with disability. I know very few who know how to handle autism. In our case, I sit and talk and update the therapist on what is going on in our famiy, what our week has been like, what Fawn is talking about. During this time, she arranges barbies on the floor; and in the last 15 minutes, she tells us what she has set up. Also, deep bodywork is making a huge difference-- it allows for release of feelings without talking. And she has some CDs she listens to that are encouraging about people being able to go forward, who have PTSD.
